Do you have your coop/run ready? If so, and these are your first chicks, you could brood them outside in the coopI agree with everyone. I'm a first time mom (to chicks). I'm using a red light too, the first 2 weeks I kept it on 24/7 peeked at them and they slept fine. The weather got warmer over 80s during the day so I started turning it off and let them outside for 2 hours in a rabbit cage at 2 weeks. They loved it. I did find my little silkies like to fall asleep in their food so I had to monitor them closer and remove the food.
My first babies went directly to the coop for brooding. I now use a grow out pen that the chicks go to after the first week or so - they don't stink up or dust up the house, they get to see the "big chickens" and I also use a MHP so they go to bed at dusk and get up at dawn.

. Plus I need to separate my turkey poult and splash Ameracauna out of their spot. It's almost time to throw the pullet into my integration pen.....
