Have any of you an idea if this will work?
Either Daphne (Pekin) or Scooby (Khaki) has been laying an egg a day for 9 days now there was a little break in laying but there is a new egg everyday now. I don't want to take them because I think someone is going to sit on the eventually. But how long should I wait before moving them to the bator?
The photos went out of sequence forgive me for that. The second pic was prior to 8 more eggs days.

The last pic is of Gertrude the African gosling I hatched and the pic before that is the ducks and other goose. Skipper is in there also.

@WVduckchick
What do you think?
This morning there is 14 eggs. I read somewhere last night that Pekins aren't very broody. So I don't know what to do.

Also I have a chicken that keeps laying eggs in the feed container. I think I should just empty the feed out and leave her to her devices. I guess she feels safe in it. lol.
These are from this morning.

But if you want to hatch them, I'd say bring them into the incubator! How old is she now?

And I'd definitely either move the feed, and let the chicken have the bucket, or put a lid on it and get her to go somewhere else. Mine will occasionally poop in the nest box, so I wouldn't want a bunch of poop in the feed .

I'll tag a few more people that may know more about pekins brooding habits

I don't have any direct experience with Pekins but my Khakis, Cayugas and Blue Swedish all will build great nest, lay eggs and share the nest laying quite a clutch of eggs, then just go off to be with their flock, playing and eating and pooping. I have yet to have any of my ducks go broody...and I have had them for almost two years...so I suspect that ducks go broody when they want to and not before. If you have mating activity that you think involves a fertile male and you want ducklings you may have to incubate them.

Quote: If you want little pekins or want your pekins to hatch eggs, you'll probably wait forever. When I was a child my parents raised both pekins and muscovies. (The pekins were my favorites.)
They would lay eggs in a nest and even sit on them, raising our hopes, but in all they years we had them, a pekin NEVER hatched a brood. They always gave up before the required days.
Finally my parents got smart and put some pekin eggs under a Muscovy (If I remember correctly, that is why a neighbor gave us two Muscovy hens) and we finally got pekin babies.
I don;'t know anything about the brooding habits of khakis but you might want to think about an incubator if you want babies. Pekin babies are adorable.

I would collect them untill you see them sitting on them.. It sounds like they just started laying.. Have you checked the egg's to see if they are fertile?? Don't waste the egg's & let them sit out.. If you don't want to eat them, cook them & feed them back to your flock..
As for the chicken laying in the feeder put a top on the container so she can't get in.. They do find the weirdest places to lay.. Here is a photo of blondie in a pot we put out with leaf debris so they could dig for bug's.. But nope, they love laying egg's in there so we put a used feed bag on top..

I never thought of that I did put two old dresser drawers out here filled with shavings but even though I moved an egg to it she has yet to actually lay one in there.
I had one lay her egg onto of the greenhouse. I don't think I need to explain how that ended. lol
Thank you @WVduckchick for helping. And tagging others to help also. That was awesome.
I think I will do the float test to check freshness since the ducks move them around all the time. I admit I have moved them a couple times myself. Just trying to redo the nest.

Also the ducklings I got from the feed store in mid February and they been mating for about 3 weeks now. Scooby Daphne and Fred that is. Skipper I hatched myself in April along with the goslings. And a couple lavender chicks I have left.

The lavenders sleep every night on the patio in my patio chair. Lol

Glad to help in any way! Thanks for tagging me! I remember Skipper!! Which one is he in the pictures above? (is he a he?)
My youngens are just mating, but I have yet to see an egg. Apparently I ended up with 3 males and only 1 female
