Will these girls ever lay? Update: Green Egg and Pippa layed too!

I think you may have to wait until 2008. My Delaware has laid some but her comb was much bigger when she started.

Yeah, my Delawares had much bigger, redder combs when they started at about 23-24 weeks.

However... I got my first egg (from a Jersey Giant or RIR) the very same day I first noticed the golf ball rolled around and the straw all arranged into a nest shape.

So I think you'll be getting something very soon, though maybe not from those Delawares.

Today somebody moved the golf balls and wood shavings around in the nest box.
They've always liked to be petted and held, but I haven't seen any obvious squatting.
It's really obvious, right?

That is a good sign - moving stuff around in the nest...it means they are checking them out. And yes, the squating is really obvious. They lower the entire body down and curl the wings outward sort of, as if waiting for a roo to mount. They will do this when you put your hand directly over the back. Fingers crossed for your eggies soon.

18 Weeks?!! I waited 34 weeks, and finally just got eggs! 18 Weeks?! I sure hope you don't need to wait as long as I did!

I got my first eggs yesterday, but my girls are almost 20 weeks and two of them have much fuller combs and wattles. Also, I got the telltale "Squat" last weekend so I'm sure which pullet its from.

I got my first squat today!!

Yay! It was from Honey and at first I was like, "WHAT are you DOING!!" and like 2 seconds later when I figured it out, "Oh, what a good chicken! You are so smart!" Yay, I'm so happy! My first squat!
and my family thinks I'm crazy, cause when I told them- "I got my first squat today! Isn't that exciting?!"
They just stared at me.

They just don't understand.

Pics from today
Butter and Honey (Delawares) are both squatting everyday.
Zela (Australorp) looks very red, but she hasn't squatted yet. Her comb shot up over night and she looks a lot redder in person.

1- Honey -she was the first to squat.

2 - Butter - squatting for a couple days

I think they all look redder in person.

I waited 36 weeks for my jersey giants to lay an egg! I've gotten 4 eggs in 3 days now! And yes, they had just started to squat last week.
