3 eggs today!!! One small and two Med.
One in the nest box and two on the floor.
Honey layed around 5pm on the floor, so either Zela or Butter are laying them in the nest box.

Today was a busy egg laying day!
All three of the big girls, Honey, Butter, and Zela layed today.
It took them all day and they complained (very loudly) about it all day.
Well, Zela doesn't complain. She is the only regular daily layer, so she just popped hers out and hopped out of the nestbox without a cluck.
Butter and Honey, however complained all day. One would hop in the nestbox and then the other one would hop in next to the first girl. Then one would hop out and complain about the other girl in the nest box AND THEN THEY WOULD DO IT 50 MILLION MORE TIMES!!!
I was sure my neighbors were going to finally complain.
Here are some pics of Butter in the nestbox.

Okay here are my goofy questions...what does the comb have to do with egg laying, and what is a egg croutch? One more how can you tell a hens age? I got mine from a local farmer, and was told they were yearlings, but they look a whole lot bigger. I suppose you can tell I know nothing about chickens.. I did get four eggs last week though, but nothing since then...Could it be the weather here?

Cold enough for 'ya?

Yeah, I would say it's the weather.
I have a heater in my coop and a red heat light, but the water is still freezing solid.
My girls are averaging an egg a day, between the 3 that are laying.
I HOPE they will start to lay a few more eggs a day when the weather warms up!
P.S. Nice to meet another Minnesotan!

I have a couple of hens that make a BIG 'ol fuss before they lay - and one of my leghorns will sit in the nest for like an HOUR getting comfortable.... I've given up the "pacing outside the coop" and just come back later....

I'm only getting on average 2 eggs a day - I have had only two 3 egg days, and the first day the third egg froze!
It took me the whole week to collect enough eggs for a nice FAT breakfast this morning - scrambled eggs, and a couple boiled!

Oh yeah, it's cold enough...my first winter here. I moved from the south. Go figure. I paced outside the coop to just waiting. I feel like I am in a delivering room just waiting for the big moment...lol I can't wait until it starts to warm up here. I did go check on them, and to batten down the hatches for the night, and saw a sight. I had 7 girls on the roost, two in one box, and there he was...Tuck with his big feather butt in the other box with 5 ladies all around him. I told him he can't be doing that, that the boxes were for the girls. I have never seen a rooster sitting in a nest until now.
