Hi
New here but have been searching and reading so much! We currently have 6 chicks in our house that we hatched as part of a âHatch the Chickenâ rental. They are 5/6 days old and we are wishing to keep them, well as many of them as we can because we are only allowed to have hens. I have been reading a lot into ways of sexing and at a best guess I think 4 are likely keepers but, my heart doesnât want to get rid of chicks that could be hens! Therefore Iâm wondering about keeping them all until I can tell the roosters for definite.
The 4 that I feel are âsafe betsâ have had noticeably different wing feathers from day 1 and are now showing small tail feathers. However Iâve read that the breed matters in this theory and I do not know enough about this yet! This is what Iâve been told...
âThe browns are usually fathered by Black Cooper Marans, Danish Leghorn or Phoenix. Moms are Production reds or Ameraucanas. The yellows turn red or white. If white, they are Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers (blue eggs). If red, they are Production reds (Bovans or Miller Browns). Unknown fathers.â
The two âbrownâ ones hatched out of white eggs and the yellows hatched out of brown eggs.
And these are the chicks! Would be grateful of any info that could help us. Any help appreciated
