So, I just hatched five little babies from my laying hens, and I am curious about the genders. I know pictures probably won’t be super helpful, given that the oldest one isn’t even two days old, but I checked their wings. I’ve read that if there are two distinct feather lengths, it’s a pullet, and if there is only one length, it’s a roo. I’ve got three that have two feather lengths, one that I believe only has one (isn’t all the way fluffed out yet- still kind of up in the air) and one that has yet to let me check (really wiggly, and I don’t want to hurt it). I was just wondering how valid this method is, given that these are barnyard mixes. Their moms are all golden comets, and we don’t really know what their dad is. I will see if I can get pictures of their feather spreads soon.
