Yes, they said I could sleep thankfully. I think only severe concussion require close monitoring.

So... big day at Wing It Ranch.

I decided that with bad weather coming, I would just go ahead and fully intigrate today instead of wait until Friday. So I let the hens out to free range and then closed the main coop/run. Then I moved the littles into the main coop. Wanted to give them plenty of time to get lay of the land before bringing the big girls back in.

And then I hurt myself.

I walked into the corrigated metal roofing of the little grow out coop, face first. Blood everywhere! I had to be rushed to urgent care. I insisted that my partner just drop me off and rush back home because the hens were out free ranging without the ability to get back in. He left and got to do the whole full intigration without me. Was kind enough to get some videos. Sounds like everything went well!

Concussion, stitches, tetanus shot, and antibiotics later, I came home to find them all in the big red coop on the roosting bars with the hens! This is their first time roosting!!

Now I'll have a huge scar right between my eyebrows for the rest of my life with an embarrassing story... (sigh)

I have been where you are, with my arm though. Between the roofing and the HWC our coops are dangerous, lol. I hope you heal up well I'm glad your integration went seamlessly!

You likely will never ever do that again, our brains have ways of making us wary once we injure ourselves - but can your partner put some soft stuff at the likely 'bonk' points? Just some foam or plastic edging?

That corrugated roofing stuff is freakin wickedly sharp edge on. :/

I'm definitely adding some pool noodles to the end of the roof for a temp fix.

This morning I have a little headache but as well as can be. I went out to the coop to check on everything. All the littles were crammed in a corner under the coop. The hens were acting normally. Except my Special girl. She's lowest on the pecking order and I've always thought she was mentally slow. Well, she is making sure her place in the pecking order remains and will just randomly go over and terrorize the littles. Probably why they're huddled away. I have 3 feeders and 3 waterers spread out so there's one right next to their huddle pile.

Yesterday evening I let the littles explore outside. They ran back inside every time one of the hens approached but seemed perfectly at ease with my boy Roman. He gave them a little sniff and then moved along to find chicken poo to munch down on like the sicko he is.

Chicks haven't really figured out the new roost bars. They're just hanging out on the poop board in the sand...
