Wing It Ranch

It is so freaking cold. That wind! Everyone is fine except the goats were shivering. I decided to turn on the heat lamp I have (secured away from them). It makes me nervous but I have a camera to check on everything. I gave them extra grain and they have plenty of hay to eat and straw to bed down in.

Today the automatic door is frozen shut
Same here, but mine is frozen open, lol. The hubs built a backup manual for inside the coop, so I've been closing and opening it. I'm ready for some sunshine and warmth 🥶

Post freezing rain: Kitchen door to outside frozen shut this morning; padlock key mechanism (where you twist the key) + then the shackle (the bar that slides into - and out of - the padlock body) both frozen and had to be thawed separately. It took quite a while to get into the run this morning! 🥶

I believe I’ll skip using the padlock for the next several nights. It’s inside resting on a floor vent drying out, then to be drowned in WD-40 or some such.

WD makes a whole bunch of products. They make one for locks. Some attract dust and gunks up the lock.

Perfect, thank you! Our roads are clear (doubt that I can say the same about my windshield; oops), and I'll pick some up.

Awesome. I had no idea such a thing existed. I noticed all my carabiners and gate locks were freezing yesterday so I actually left everything unlocked so I didn't have to find with it today.

Everyone survived the night! Beau is loving it. Goats.. not so much. They've been cuddling under heat lamp. One of my pullets was hunched and shivering so I held her in my jacket while I did chores and then put her inside the coop. She seemed much better when I left her.

One of the joys of living where it regularly is below zero, is learning all kinds of cold weather things 😂
