Wing It Ranch

I can put on more clothes in the winter. The summer humidity kills me. Especially now with the ticks and Lyme I am covered head to toe with insect repellent clothes
I just frolic around in my barefeet with a pair of tweezers at the ready 🤣 I don’t mind the humidity until it starts kissin on the cold. That’s where I draw the line.

Well, crap. I shut off water going into the coop and thought I drained it well enough but apparently not.

I was literally bailing out water with tuberwear. Thankfully I had 2 bags of pine pellets to soak up what I couldn't get out. No chickens were harmed-they were all free ranging when it burst.

Used to use an air compressor to blow out lines to the garden.... until the squirrels chewed the line up

I made a joke before this happened saying I was going to wrap the chicken pipes in insulation but knew the chickens would just eat it. Silly creatures.

So it's 6:30am and I wake up. 17° and I look outside at all the frost and in the distance I see... a chicken. All alone. Outside.

I panic and throw on my winter gear, grab waterers and run out there.

Turns out I left the mini coop open yesterday and one of the BCM decided she'd rather sleep in there by herself with the door wide open. On the coldest night of the year. She's the same one that insists on sleeping in the nest boxes while everyone else roosts. I think she gets bullied. She also hasn't laid her 1st egg yet.

She seemed fine, though!

Very nice! Congrats! You should keep all her eggs for the next couple of weeks and do a progression post to see how much darker they get
Done! Starting at the top left, these are her first 11 eggs showing the progression. I don't see them darkening that much. The very last egg is the other pullet's first egg.

They don't look super dark in that pic but if you see them next to my other eggs, they are a nice contrast.
