Deathpuff sat on top of the food pile, churring. His crest and beard were splattered with berry juice and in his stubby wings the remaining berries were piled. He hiccuped and smiled broadly, waving at passing chickens........
Some posts are just missed, even some of mine with my scary goat avie are missed.
Moon laid her head gently against the egg, laughing in her heart, she closed her eyes and listened. It was alive inside, she could hear it peeping, her little eggs were hatching. She could barely contain her joy and found herself smiling like she hadn't smiled in years. She wanted to scream it to the world, she never thought she would see the day when her chicks hatched, never thought she'd get this far. Now if only he was here, then things would be complete. She like most everyone else had the dream of a perfect family, a mate, a few chicks and a nice home. But long ago she had resigned to the fact that the perfect life wasn't hers and that she would make due just fine with what was given her.
So many things to plan now, so much work! Earlier, on one of her searches, she had found a possible home. It was not perfect and she was still looking but it would do if she could find no other. A small hollow hidden in the brambles, not the prettiest but as safe as one could hope for out here. She could clean it out, work on some sort of door to keep the insects and other small pests at bay. It really wasn't ba--, her thought pattern was interrupted by a loud peep. Finally, one had of her eggs had pipped, wouldn't be long now.
"Hello baby" she churred, "Welcome to the world"
