Quiet moaning eminated from Clawstar's den as he awoke, followed by a yawn and a hoarse wheeze. He'd slept in far longer than usual. It must be beat up Clawstar week or something... first that Owl and then- "Ouch," he grumbled crossly, as his heet hit the floor, his hocks buckled and he nearly toppled over. He could feel his head burning with an intense fever, at the same time throbbing with a headache. His sight was hazy and he had little energy as he struggled to the exit of the den. He felt the bend of his wing to his forehead and it was hot to the touch.
Lumbering clumsily over to the river, now and then catching himself from stumbling, with the limp in his gait unusually exaggerated, he peered through the cattails and looked into the murky water. He gasped when he saw black, raised sores dappled all over his face. He swirled his flight feathers in the water, thinking he'd just seen some sort of debris floating across the surface of the water, which happened to drift over his reflection. The black spots still lingered. He felt his face with his wing and the surface was not smooth. This was no figment of his imagination, it was not debris in the water. This was real.
He couldn't allow anyone to see him like this. How mortifying! He knew what it was, and he could not leave it untreated. He swallowed shallowly and sighed silently. With his head down and his black tail streaming behind him in a blur, he wearily raced to the only person he would possibly allow to see him in this condition. Thorntalon.
"Thorn?" he called as he arrived at the entrance, leaning on the den's framework of boughs to support himself, each labored breath carrying a light rasp.
(ATTENTION WINGCLAN: I am giving Clawstar dry pox. Since it is dry pox, not wet pox, he will pull through, but all of this is on purpose because I am leaving for a three day long vacation. Brightflight (Crazy) is in charge, so if you need something, please do not come looking for Clawstar.)
Thorntalon was in her den, turned around from ClawStar. "Yes?" she said kindly, whipping her head around to see that he had Dry-Pox. "Uh-oh...Let's get you treated right away." The little cochin spread dried grass over a special area in the back of the den for the really sick chickens or over-flow, it was slightly under ground. She motioned the leader to sit.
He collapsed in a heap, watching as Thorntalon darted around in what looked to him a blur of gray. "Thank you, Thorn," he rasped, "Can you have someone tell Bright-" he stifled a wheeze, "...that he's in charge?" he asked.

She nodded and laid him down on his back, applying a huge gob of a dark gold, sticky ointment to his comb and wattles to soothe them. Thorntalon gave him a swig of her bitter, green Dry Pox elixir, the concoction slithering slowly down his throat. "It's recommended that you eat liquid food, so I'm going to feed you off tubes," she said, sticking a tube full of mashed berries, seeds, and worms, some water, and a trace of Dry Pox elixir into his mouth. "All you need to do is rest and stay back here to prevent illness in other birds. Heal quickly, ClawStar." The young hen smiled and strutted away from the secluded side of the den, heading outside to bathe herself after handling the sick rooster.
