"Do you want anything to eat?" Silver asked, squinting in through the bars of the cage. "You look like you've been in quite a scrape."

The spark of sunlight turned the inside of Bloodwing's eyelids a glowing orange. For a moment he turned over, trying to stave off the morning. In the end, it was the pain in his side that prodded him awake. With a yawn, Bloodwing rolled over again, opening his eyes and with a shock found himself inside the medicine den. How in all the forest had he got here? With a frown, he remembered shapes, sounds, but nothing definite since passing out next to Blackthorn. The name still held a sorrowful note in his thoughts, and the rooster shook his head sadly, pushing himself into a sitting position and brushing his comb with a wing so that it stood upright.

Quickly Silver took a few berries and some roots that the rabbits had most likely dug up. "You're in Wingclan camp," she explained, passing the food between the bars with a smile. "Did you come by the way of the Thunderpath? It's a miracle you found your way here!"

I was going to--" Quickly, he shut his beak. He had never told her that he was planning to leave, or why he had left for Hackleclan in the first place.

"You're welcome," Silver nodded. "Humans . . ." she grimaced. "I hope I'll never see one again. They kept me in a cage, too, along with a few other hens. The only things they seemed to care about were our eggs."
