Just watch movies, read books; and stop to digest the words and plot in your mind. Sometimes I write stories that are a mix of plots from many different pieces of literature, and it always turns out better that way.

Study the world around you. I find inspiration from the littlest things I find. Speartalon? I wanted him to be different somehow, to be an outcast of sorts. I couldn't quite think of how, at first. I thought of cross-beak, but that's for a character of mine in the future (whoops, little bit of a spoiler there) but then I watched this show about an albino person and I was all like, 'He will be an albino. YES.'
