wings and free range question

I am wondering if the wings of the chickens need to be clipped before allowing them to free range...they have never been let out of the run and when I approach the door I have a few that are just dying to escape...Im afraid of not getting them back so I havent let them out yet...any help would be great...thanks

Only clip if you don't want them going over a tall fence or getting and possibly staying up in tall trees.

My chicks are 5 1/2 weeks now. I do plan on clipping their wings soon. I trim my parrots flight feathers, so I am comfortable with trimming the chicks wing feathers. But on the chickens I am thinking of only trimming 3 feathers in, with the parrots I trim 7 in. Make sure not to trim a blood feather and have some quick stop or corn starch on hand if it does bleed.
