Welcome to Wingsy's Roost, named after my unofficial most favorite hen ever, Wingsy!

Here I will tell stories of my chickens and any other animals that I have (said other animals mainly being my dog) and share lots of pictures, once I convince my phone to work properly for long enough. The screen decided to malfunction because I've dropped it a few too many times (though several of those were indirectly kind of the dog's fault, to be completely fair).

I'm hoping to start a separate page to list my chickens, at some point, once I figure out how. When I figure that out, I'll add a link to that here, or at least, that's the plan.

Having chickens, I see now why the expression "mad as a wet hen" is a thing. It was very wet and foggy yesterday, and they were not at all impressed. I watched as they walked out from their shelter while it was actively raining, though, so I guess they made their choice lol.

They kept trying to shake the water off and their feathers just kept flopping all over the place. I checked on them a few hours after dark and they were much drier, which was good since it was a tiny bit cold over night.

Some of them look quite different when they are that soaked. My ability to tell them apart at a distance is partially based on feather color and tail shape. It did not work so well when them being soaked makes their feathers change shade and they're also holding their tails down from the weather. It makes them just look really weird in general, too. I actually picked up Yami to give her a quick health check, thinking that she may have been eggbound because she came up to me and it looked as though she was penguin standing. Nope. Apparently, that seems to be how she usually stands and I just can't see it most of the time through all of her feathers. 😂

I got a few pictures, but not a ton because it started to get dark earlier than usual because of the fog and rain and I needed to get evening chores done.

Sydney was curious about me taking her picture...

...but not at all impressed by the fact that she was soaked. Poor Sydney!

Squeaky had so much mud on her feet that she was having a bit of trouble walking, but the worst of it came off after a minute of scratching in the grass so I didn't end up having to do anything.

Wingsy decided to roost in the nest box this evening for some unknown reason. I suspect it just got dark too fast for her to go up since it was gray and raining. She was not impressed when I had to go in the coop to put her up, but at least she stayed up there!
