Which one is quackers and which one is cheese?View attachment 1544270 View attachment 1544268 These two are Quackers and Cheese, my pair of Swedish ducks. They are a year and a half and live in my backyard in suburban Fort Collins, Colorado.
Quackers, the female, is feisty and always running around causing trouble, getting into the broken sprinkler drip, jumping into the raised beds, chasing mourning doves (who she especially dislikes) and pestering me to let her in the house so she can rummage and rampage. If grabbed she acts offended but then settles in for a cuddle.
Cheese, her faithful man, is the voice of reason and safety. He is cautious and slow, protective and steadfast. He stands by as she gets into trouble and watches the skies for danger. Quietly affectionate, he doesn’t like being held but likes to be near, his eye always on me and his girl.
They were unexpected pets that filled a void left when my beloved cat died of old age. I was supposed to only raise them for a friend with a hobby farm, however when it came time to turn them over to her, they seemed too young and I told my husband that the next week would be better. When I came home from work the next day, he was in the garage biulding a duck house. Yes, he’s a rare and treasured breed!
Anyway, long story, hopefully with many more stories to come in the future.
