OK, I spent two whole days cooking and made turnips au-gratin, sweet potatoes, whipped potatoes, Martha's mac&cheese, green beans in ham broth (a WV fave), steamed veggies, homemade yeast rolls (a big hit) and one stuffed turkey that took FORVER to cook. Im happy with everything but that

I wound up cranking up the heat, and glazing with butter and honey to keep it moist

and I cut the string on the legs and wiggled the thing to death to check for doneness

It took so long. My husbands family was a little early and everyone's hanging in the kitchen waiting. I had a glass of wine and got a little frazzled...BUT I pulled it off

and the turkey was fantastic!

My first Thanksgiving. Mom (center) sold the house last year and this year all of my siblings were going to in-laws. I got an #18 bird from the local CSA farm (under 20 miles) and most of the veggies were local. Made all my own bread and all of the ingredients for the stuffing/dressing came from NY state. The shrimp cocktail appetizer was a little high in food miles but delicious.
