Winter broody cochin hen candle day 7?

They look dead. :(
You should be able to see lots of veins now. The one in the last pic definitely looks dead.
I'm sorry. How many eggs are there? Maybe some are still alive.
Such a bummer. I feared that was the case. There are four eggs total. I candled three. One of the eggs is from my Cream Legbar and her shells are thick and I could not get any light to shine through it. :(

Leave them for a few days maybe and see if anything happens. I doubt it, but you never know.

Will the hen just get over her broodiness with time? Will she know they are not viable and stop sitting on them?
She will probably keep sitting. You could either buy a couple chicks for her, or break her. She won't stop unless one of those happens.

She will continue to sit. My duck sat on eggs I thought were alive for 3 months. They tossed the bad ones out and restarted twice, so that is why I waited so long.

We have a hatch!!! Happy Birthday to one little blue chick!!! I was so excited when I went into Coop today and heard chirping.
No surprise for this bizarre Winter hatch, we have a mystery friends. She was sitting on four eggs, there are two still intact, one peeping little chick and two different color hatched shells?!? I looked everywhere in the coop and run and only one chick under Mama. Thoughts?

Hmm, I dont know if it is at the same with chickens, but I know that with ducks, if a duckling dies fully formed in the shell and the momma knows, she will break open the shell, drag the dead body away from the nest, and eg the egg shell. Maybe she only ate half? I have no idea! I could very well be wrong though. Can you dig through the shavings a bit? Maybe something is buried down there? Is the cracked egg still under her? Or did that one hatch or is the cracked egg the one that disappeared?

The shells I photographed are what was under her. The chick came out of one of those and one is missing.
