I went up to the green house today. The tote with water in it is a huge block of ice, floating in a bit of water. The kale seedlings might be all toast. There is one spinach seedling, and it looks like it might be ok.

Supposed to get below zero F Friday night/Saturday morning.

Wow! You have some serious weather!
Its been below freezing here every night!
If you want your plants to be warm make sure you give them some water. It will keep the ground/ soil warm.

I hope you get something this year!:hugs:hugs

I'm pretty sure such what you made is called a "COLD FRAME" ,, Yes, it works like a green house. :thumbsup

Long ago, my Mom used to set those up in her garden as an early start. She started out with window panes that were extra around the house. (from replacement storm windows), Then made a frame to fit the window glass/frame. Some of her cold frames were made with 2 window panes wide.

During day, she would prop up one side by a little stick, placed between window, and frame, to allow fresh air. In evening, the frame was closed.

Hi everyone! I just got a greenhouse for Valentine’s Day, but I know nothing about them…I suspect my fiancé just didn’t want my seed starts in the house for weeks on end again 😅 hoping this thread can learn me up. Im in zone 4b I believe, so probably a few weeks before I can move anything into the green house I think.

Started my peppers, tomatoes and flowers inside today. I want a little cut garden so I did a lot of flower varieties. It’s my first time growing flowers from seed and my plan is to plant them around the edges of the house and in the large pots outside, if I can keep the chickens out. I am doing asters, rudbeckia, snap dragons, sunflowers, morning glories (not where chickens can get to them), calendulas, and a few other varieties.

For veggies I am doing:
Korean long tomatoes
Hungarian heart tomatoes
Jersey devil tomatoes
Prairie fire tomatoes
Several hot pepper varieties
Lesya peppers
Violet sparkle peppers
A few cucumber varieties
A few squash varieties

That’s all I can think of right now….I don’t think I’ll be able to move anything to the greenhouse until next month or even April though.

What are some good ones to leave in the greenhouse all summer, if any? Like I said I’ve never used one and am used to container gardening outside all summer.

Tomatoes I would leave in the greenhouse along with the peppers.
Sounds like you have a nice garden growing!
