Winter is right around the corner!

Thanks Chickens Really ( and everyone else too) that was exactly what I was looking for! Just out of curiosity, how umm “soupy” do you make it? Is the consistency more like a soup or thicker like maybe chili? Or do they even care as long as it’s warm and full of goodies?

I make it like soup....That way they don't choke as they eat it......

same its my first winter with ducks, (i live in Saskatchewan so we get mighty cold)

but will have to look into feeding them a soup and oatmeal

Hello...
I make daily in the winter a warm water soup for my Ducks...I feed it before they get locked up for the night...
I use romain lettuce, tomatoes, peas, cucumber, two alfalfa cubes and a bit of feed...They gobble it up....
In the morning they eat regular feed and I give them a bowl of warm water to drink....The rest of the day I give regular feed and water....

could chickens also eat this soup?

No.....I would worry about impacted or sour crop in Chickens....I feed them the same feed all year around...Only thing different is I toss some alfalfa hay in the run for then to scratch and peck through as forage ...Toss some thawed veg out once a week....

I never use Oatmeal....I buy Oat and Barley crumble and classic scratch grains...I mix that with Duck finisher and grower....My Ducks do great ....Classic scratch has less corn...

I’m sure if it’s dry food you don’t really need to worry unless it snows. But it wouldn’t hurt if you’re willing to!

Can't say I'd ever considered that. Maybe I am just a mean duck mommy.

I forgot to quote the post but someone said they heard ducks are a breeze in the winter. Maybe, but only for Floridans! Keeping water in front of them takes a lot of effort and time, plus it's tricky to make waterers that they won't dump everywhere and try to bathe in. It's bad enough I actually sold out of ducks once because I was just so sick of it. I do finally have a water solution that works, though, if anyone needs one...

I have been finding inches of mud on the bottom of the water bucket these days, that is changing it out twice per day! Without a hose to clean it out, its going to be messy and I am not bringing that into the house. Hopefully the ground freezes shorty after turning off the outside water and they won't be able to pick up all the mud. I don't know how its going to work - I'll just have to find a way...I am curious, what is your watering solution?
