Winter-Ready Coop

Is that waterer a metal bottom? Or plastic?

It is all plastic. Since the photos we have changed to the Le Bistro dog waterers

They are easier for the kids to clean and refill and they sit on the water heater without any issues.

Fantastic... Does the whole tank stay liquid? Or just the tray?

This question plagues me as well - how much is enough and what's the best way to construct it? Do I cut strips across the top under the eaves and screen them over? Use a roof vent like on a house? How do I figure out how much is enough for 6 birds in half of a 6 x 8 moderately insulated house in a zone 4?

I think this is my biggest worry for coop construction...

My Idea, (until I hear something better) is to cut a few different pieces of wood to cover the vents different amounts.

I have a spare wireless thermometer / hydrometer, and plan on monitoring it until I get as close to 50% with the highest temp possible.
