Winter Waterer Recommendations?

My water system is similar to Mobius' water system. I use a semi clear 10 gallon tote with lid I bought at Walmart with horizontal nipples. Semi clear means I can easily see when it needs filling and it holds enough water to last over a week. My heater is a stock tank deicer that is safe to use in plastic. I keep it out in the run and it's gone down to -13 here without freezing. For summer I plan on using the same system but with a black tote to help stop algae from growing. I always have the water out to fill the plastic swimming pool for the ducks and geese so am not so concerned with seeing the water level in summer as I am in winter.

I wanted to add that my tote/horizontal nipple/stock tank dicer watering system is working beautifully. Yesterday we had a low of -22 F and a high of 3. Everything stayed thawed. Water is kept outside in the run. It sure saves me a lot of worry. Unfortunately the frost free faucet I payed the plumber to install isn't working as well as it should. I had to pile 2 bales of straw up against it so it won't freeze and cause the water pipes under the house to freeze.

Yeah I think -22 is too cold even for a freeze free faucet. Maybe move south a few hundred miles.
My homemade heated base worked down to 4 Fahrenheit the coldest so far. Supposed to go below 0 this weekend. GC
