Winter wheat

If I close off one of the runs and throw some winter wheat seeds in it and let it grow can they forage on it this winter?

Yes they love the stuff. It doesn't take long for them to graze it down to the dirt usually eating everything including the roots. If the wheat gets to tall though they seem to leave it alone. Our birds cleaned out my wheat last spring in about a week. Had to net it off and replant and let it grow for 3 weeks till it wasn't tender enough for them. Sunflower seedlings they do the same with.
