Winter

I have a different question about winter... I have 10 Khakis, in a nice little house that they should do fine in- partially insulated, deep litter, ventilation windows are higher than their heads, etc. They put themselves to bed at dusk, and I let them out at 9am. I don't give them water or food at night so the litter stays dry and warm. But with the shorter days, they will probably be putting themselves to bed earlier and spending much longer without water. Do I need to start letting them out earlier? Getting up at 5:30 in the morning won't be fun, but I guess I can do it if I have to.

I let mine out around 7am not 5:30 am still pitch dark here at that time this time of year. and mine do fine without food and water Watch for daylight which is later during fall and winter and I let them out accordingly.

What about getting your drake a girlfriend? He'll stay warmer with some companionship. Check Craigslist for anyone looking to rehome another Pekin. Even if its a male, two is warmer than one.

I let my ducks out into the run at 7:30am on weekdays, 8:30am on weekends, and they are fine without food and water inside the coop. Baby ducks needs more access to food and water, but adults are good for the night without it.

I was planning on getting some females for him, but I can't get a hold of any till the spring. I DON'T want another male, I did have two other males, but they were fighting each other and ripping out each other's feathers, and one even attacked the dog, so we had to get rid of two of them.
But yeah, if I can get him through just this one winter on his own, that'd be great. My dad said he'd help me build a proper house for him on Monday, and I'm going to stuff it with hay for insulation and stuff like that.

Awesome of your dad, and as long as you spend time with him over the winter he should be fine till spring and you can get him some girls.
