Winterizing the barn and run

She had said something in an earlier response about one of her eggs bursting because it was laid late and she didn’t get to it till morning and by then it had burst. I asked, just out of curiosity, what could make an egg burst over night. That question and her response were not related to the lamp bulb bursting. Tho two different things bursting I can understand the mix up lol
Oh well the egg froze overnight. Thanks for clearing that up..:frow

It seems silly to me but I didn’t know eggs could burst from freezing. I was always told that you could store eggs in the freezer if needed. Tho I’ve never needed and always thought freezing eggs was a weird concept. Kinda like how people say you can freeze milk.. just seems strange to me.

Eggs burst once frozen..:frow
I toss those to my dogs..:D

I have a pile of “bad” eggs I feed back to my chickens once in a while. I scramble them first and cook them a bit before doing so.

The freezing methods (there are a few) I’ve used is scrambling them with a bit of sugar or salt, and pouring them into ice cube trays. I use the salty eggs for savory things and sugary eggs for baked goods.

Birds have their own stall with roof. They’re stall opens facing the door out to their run. And their stall opening is 2’ or less from that door. They do not mingle with the goats and the goats aren’t allowed in their space.

the heat lamp that we had burst was 7-8’ off the ground and opposite the ducks. My only assumption as to how any moisture got to the lamp was either a goat sneezed a very animated wet sneeze OR the wind did something crazy being that the barn door was open at that time. It was a very odd incident that still doesn’t make any sense
I have a new barn that is actually a semi trailer...we sectioned it off...ducks and rabbits on one side..door..grain room..door..goats...I don’t see why there’s a problem with the ducks and goats..I’m on goat spot.comand they have been told my setup and those people would have barked down my throat if there was an issue. As long as there is proper ventilation for each..we have windows..which stinks due to heat loss...I heard on here a few days ago about heating a chicken coop with ceramic bulbs..no clue if it will work. My ducks are good..I have 43 so they snuggle. And tons of straw. In our chickens nest boxes we put wood shavings below the straw...maybe that would add cushion..just make sure it’s wayyy low so they don’t eat it. Just a note about the water set up...ducks really need to be able to dip their head into water to clean their eyes. What we do is have one those low long totes..and my hubby made a wide board Togo across so they can’t play in it..then they can dip heads...I also saw..using 5 gal buckets and putting drip pan around to avoid the water spill..which is my issue, but I have call ducks so I just pile straw around them. Just a thought so they can clean their eyes.
