Wire fencing prices for building chicken yard

right now.

I am in the process of making a chicken yard around my coop for my marans (not the run, a bigger area for them that is fenced). My husband set the pipe corner posts for me and went to get the wire, red brand 2x4, 5ft welded wire fencing. According to the TSC website, 100ft of it was $89.99. He gets there, with the page print out with the price, SKU#, etc...and they tell him it's $159.99

Now online it says it's only available in store...http://www.tractorsupply.com/fencing/welded-wire-fence/welded-wire-60-in-x-100-ft--3626499

So WHY is the price online nearly half of what it is in the store?
I am just mad because I didn't plan on spending that much on the wire and he bought it anyway (I'm not mad at my husband, just mad my budget is blown and now I can't get a few little extras).

Should they have honored their online price for the fence? Should I go back and talk to a manager?

I would definitely take the print out from the website and go back to the store with it. They should honor that price as its on their website.

It sounds weird, but lots of stores don't match online prices in the B&M store. I don't recall exactly why, but it might have something to do with the cost savings of online versus on-hand inventory, or possibly even making sure that individual store sales (as in profits) don't suffer at the expense of online pricing. Why TSC only carries it in stores and shows a lower price online might be a factor of local supply/demand and the individual store's cost.

Why not buy the wire online? TSC doesn't carry it online, but try farmtek.com. Even with shipping, it might be less expensive than buying in the store, plus you have the benefit of having it brought right to your door. Less lifting, and less time and fuel costs for you overall.

Edited to add that Lowe's has 4'x100' online for $65. I've seen it in the store for about the same:

I bought mine at Lowe's too...4 x 100 feet for $65.

if i had to keep goats and pigs in or do i just need to go with field fence

It is field fence, the 2x4 no climb fence stuff.


I called TSC and spoke to the manager. I can't make it to the store today, but I am supposed to go back in tomorrow and she is going to refund the difference between the online price and what we paid in store.

She was super nice about everything, no hassle at all!

This is the kind of story that happens in my house all the time. My husband has a funny way of spending twice what I expect him to whenever I send him out for stuff. He just pays whatever and doesn't think to talk to a manager or anything. Then I get to sort it out later. Oy!
