We have a pretty long chicken run (not sure of exact length but around 40 feet x 16 feet). I was wondering what is the best wire or roofing we could put over the top to keep out overhead predators as well as raccoons and other climbing critters?

The best answer is Cattle panels 16'x4 so you'll need 10 and then another layer of chicken wire 1" over that. 2nd option, Welded wire fencing 2x4 inch squares. It comes in 100 foot length and 4,5,6 ft tall. so run it the 16 foot and then the next layer overlap it and use zip ties or baling wire to sew it together. chicken wire by its self is not strong enough to hold off coons, skunks, coyotes.

If you have money and want to do it once, use the 1/2"x1/2" rabbit wire. The heavy duty fish net will also work well, but may not able to handle the raccoon after few years.
