Wire to Wood. What to use??

Staple the wire securely, then try to pull it out. If you can't do it, then don't worry that a predator can. If you can pull it out, use screws and washers. If you staple it right you will pull the fence posts before you pull out the wire.

I use the small nail-in fence staples, same as I use on welded wire fence.
If you use them at least every 2" Mr Peepers is right about it not pulling off. Well, at least not until the wood begins to rot away, but I hope you're using pressure treated so that won't happen for a while. If you drive them with fence pliers I think it's easier than a hammer, but your results may vary, and if you can afford or borrow a staple gun then I guess it's even easier.

I only used screws and washers when I was putting vents in my cedar dog house. The cedar wood is brittle it seems like the staples pull out of it much easier than they do from your standard pine 2x4's.

Here's what I use. I bought 10,000 feet of this stuff at a business liquidation auction for $50.00 a few years ago. It's 1/8" aluminum strips that are 1 1/2" wide. I drill holes every 4", staple the hardware cloth where I want it, then screw the strips onto it. Also works great for putting hardware cloth to metal, using the correct screws of coarse.

Not only is it there to stay, but IF you want/need to remove it all you need to do is back out the screws. Heavy screws and washers is also how we attach hardware wire to our coops/pens. Plus, it's easier for me to use the battery powered drill with the screws than to hammer in the u-shaped fence nails.
