i have a charger here but it says its a 12v 500ma, will that work just fine too lol. then i wouldnt have to go buy one

Yes, 500 milliamps is .5 amps.

The yellow wire is a frequency generator to monitor fan speed. It wouldn't be used in your application. Did you try reversing the polarity?
Do you have any sort of voltmeter to check the voltage from your power supply?

i hooked it up to my 6v rechargable battery charger and it works with that and thats a 1.2A. the 500ma must be to small. the fan doesnt spin very fast but i guess i just need it to circulate air is all

That will work for a while, but may cause the motor to overheat and eventually burn out. Try to find a 12 volt "wall wart" that will work. I have boxes of them around here from all of the different electronic gadgets we've had over the years; old printers, cordless telephones, modems, etc.

Find a what???

A "wall wart". A power transformer that plugs into the wall. Darn near every consumer electronic device that is sold anymore uses them. That little "box" on the end of the cord that plugs into an outlet. Like I said, I have all kinds of them because I keep them rather than throw them away with old gadgets. They come in handy when doing a project like you are doing.
