x2 I may have problems getting to sleep at night, but once I am asleep, I don't hear anything. Had no idea about any boomers. We did have quite a bit of rain this morning, though. A little bit of rumbling in the distance, but not much.

Yes TO, the traps work wonderfully. Luckily, they have left my birch alone so far, but they are all in my plums, cherries & pussy willows. I put one trap out & it was full to the top in 2 days. I have 2 traps now & ordered 2 more because they are so bad this year. As for the fear of attracting the beetles to the tree: there are beetles all over: the trap will catch them so they can't escape & breed more beetles. The more you attract, the more will get caught & die. You don't want to put the trap in the tree, though, but near it so the beetles that are in the tree will leave it for the trap. I can't rave about them enough. It is a great, effective way to dispose of them without using toxins. I do recommend getting the one made by Tanglefoot, not the one from Safer brand. Tanglefoot has a plastic receptacle, while Safer uses a plastic bag in which to hold the beetles. The plastic bag has to be replaced every time it fills up, so that is an expense every few days, and the beetles will chew through the bag. I bought both traps, and the Safer one went into the trash within a week. The Tanglefoot one I've had for 4 years now. All you have to do is buy a pheremone lure, which lasts a year. Here is a link to them on Amazon. I bought one from Jung once, but this year they want $20 for them, & on Amazon they're $14. Ok, I'm done with my pitch now.

Love your little quail, BTW! She's so cute!
Oh, and the girls go crazy for the beetles, DrH. Somehow the trap in the run got knocked down overnight, with a pile of them spilled out onto the grass, and the girls had them dispatched within seconds.

That would be Field park on 83 & NN. I already posted a link on the fees, which were kinda steep, I thought.

I brought my chickens to the fairgrounds today. I really didn't want to separate my only rooster from his hens, make them sit in a hot barn for 5 days or expose them to parasites and diseases other chickens may be carrying. But my daughter begged me so we brought 2. I signed 6 up but have since sold a few. Poor things. I'll bring them watermelon tomorrow. My kids have never shown chickens, just ducks. So this will be a little change.

okay, need some suggestions here, have 7 test eggs in the bator and 5 of them are at day 18 so they need to be taken from the turner-now I have a homemade incubator so no trays to move them down
smile.png
the other 2 eggs are 2 and 3 days out yet. If I take all from the turner and put on the wire rack-marking the 2 eggs needing to be turned will they be okay if I up the humidity and will the other 5 eggs be okay if I am having to open the incubator 3x a day to turn.

When you say the 2 eggs are 2 or 3 days out, what do you mean they have been in for only 2-3 days or is it 2-3 days til they go in lockdown?

If you can't do it any other way (ie seperate bators) I would go with the higher humidity and no turning in order to give the 5 eggs the best chance to hatch. If you put the 2 eggs in something like an egg carton that can be propped up and turned quickly when you open the bator means it would be open for a shorter amount of time.

I don't know how big or heavy your bator is but if you really don't want the humidity to drop when you open it you could move the bator into a steamy bathroom when you open it. Lotta work to do that 3 x a day.

I think I would just chance the 2 eggs at the higher humidity and no turning for the 3 days of lockdown.

This is just my 2 cents. Good Luck !! Whatcha hatching?

the 2 eggs are 2 and 3 days out from lockdown, DH is looking to see if he as some neat small long handle tool that could be put in through a vent hole and carefully turn the eggs. I am doing a test hatch using my Blue Cuckoo Marans cockeral over 2 Blue Marans(all 3 from Hurley) and 1 Cuckoo Marans hen we have. If we have any hatch I'll be sure to share some photos!

Just thought I would share this tidbit of information

I just placed an order with Jeffers and got $10 off of a $100 purchase. Here is the coupon code to use: Jeff10

I ordered horse vaccines, $10.95 shipping was for 2nd day air. So that coupon code saved me almost all of the extra shipping I had to pay. They don't have any shipping charges for $60 or more except for vaccines and FOB items.

I have another order I'm going to place without vaccines so I will get another $10 off and no shipping

Gosh I am so good at spending money to save money !!!

Anyway, to all you horse owners out there. Can I ask what you vaccinate your horses for here in WI ???? I know some people don't vaccinate at all, some don't vaccinate every year and some only certain core vaccines.

So whatcha all doing here in WI ???

I just got a shipment of West Nile from Big Dee's Tack. I know I'm late but I think better late then never. I ordered the Fort Dodge V way from Jeffers and right now when you order several of their vaccines and several different wormers you get $3.00 off when you order both. So I got the V way and anthelcide for $24.something. Not a bad deal. The wormer alone was $6.00 so quite a savings. Even though I don't like Fort Dodge vaccines.
I have not had any bad experiences with them but have heard alot of horror stories. But then again Prevenile West Nile vaccine was recalled last year which is made by Intervet which is what I always used !!!! Can't win for losing I guess !!
I saw first hand a horse with West Nile Virus in Racine at a barn I board at. The horse had been vaccinated for WNV with a FD product not to long before it came down with it. I also had recently been purchased from someone in the midwestern part of the state. At first they thought the horse had either rabies or west nile. Turns out west nile. The horse died. It was owned by a veterinarian and she was out of town when the horse came down with the symptoms. It was very sad to see.
hit.gif
It was a welsh pony.
Then of course I will vaccinate for Rabies in the fall. The vet said that is the best time to vaccinate for Rabies because of the greater chance of the wild critters coming into barns etc in the colder winter.

So if you don't want to post here feel free to PM me with your thoughts.
Oh and while your at it I was talking with the neighbor who has a horse that hasn't been wormed for the 4 yrs they've had it. What would you all reccomend ??? I rotate with Ivermectin, pyrantel pamoate, anthelcide, Fenbendazole and ivermectin /praziquantel.
I am no expert so I thought I would ask you all to see what you would do. I know the pyrantel pamoate kills quickly so I don't think they would want to start with that one in case there is a high worm load right? Nor the Ivermectin/Praziquantel. So would it maybe be best to just do the plain Ivermectin? That would get the bots as well.
Just was doing some reading on Bots. Sounds like I will always have bots as long as the neighbors don't treat for bots !!!!!!!
somad.gif
Do cows get bots??? If so then I know I'll never get rid of them, neighbors (not the same neighbors) have alot of beef cattle.

Sorry to bore all of you guys without horses with my questions !!!

But on the other hand I read all about your snakes !!!
big_smile.png
Hope I don't have nighmares about a big corn snake wrapping his body around my neck !!!

Evening All... as luck would have it, my truck is at suzies cousins auto repair for brakes and a few other things that i would normally do....any way after we dropped the truck off and came back from c-ville, right at the intersection where you'all turned off th hwy to the bash was one of those huge bails of fresh hay about 3/4 intact....
barnie.gif
What the heck...no truck...free fresh hay for the flock or mulching....
hit.gif

Fired up the weber like most days....fresh brats from the meat market...I loved them. Suzie thought they were to spicy....what?
Fresh corn on the cob grilled to a partial carmel. Perfect the way i like it. 5$ a doz, but awful sweet.

Nice cool day today. The rain managed to hatch a few thousand more skeets.

Bucthered one cross cockeral yesterday. Time for him to go...dressed at 4lbs at 17 weeks...not great and not bad either. Prolly 5 more or so to go. Still have ellie (the one eye guy) I'm making him work for now...we'll see. Extra work locking him up before I let the kids out...kinda trained already...gentle and easy to pick up and move...silly wooster.

Good to read everyone is safe and sound, with plenty to do for sure, eh!
