Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Take heart, Cind. Many others know your (our) pain of trying to take a non-blurry photo of our fowl.
A quote from the pages of CommunityChickens.com:

"We understand that trying to capture a photo of a living chicken is like trying to nail Jell-O to a wall".

Good evening--glad I rebooted before answering...there were three more posts! That always seems to happen to me. We must all have the same schedules for writing!
Tonight I made an all veggie supper! MMMM. Got some corn, beans, cukes and beets at the farmers' stand in town. Made the cukes into a salad along with some peppers from MY garden and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Beans. corn and beets made like usual. THen I picked 4 little eggplants and some basil out of the garden and sauteed potato, garlic, basil, onion and peppers in EVO. Then added the eggplant and a can of diced tomato. What a great dinner! THe parrots are enjoying the small amount of leftovers! (not much!)

Earlier I forgot to tell you all about a new game that my ducks made up. It is called "Catch yer own protein!" I sure wish I would have had the camera! I had set the "Big Stinky" fly trap on the ground while I went up to the car to get the bags of corn. I usually keep it on top of the corn barrel. THe youngish ducks were all around the trap when I came back down snapping up flies as they made their way to the trap! I didnt bother to put the trap back up on the barrel. Those ducks sat there most of the afternoon eating flies! WHat a deal! If they start again tomorrow I will have to get a pic.

Bedtime for me...I stayed up way too late last night so I am really tired! Sweet dreams all! Terri O

Yes very much so, we had a lot of losses this year. Our herd has quite a few older cows in it and they didn't do so hot after calving this past January. And we had a problem with some infectious diseases in one of our calf pens. Sad...and it sure is hard to lose them. We are kind of looking forward to tax season! Maybe the tax guy won't tell us we need to go out and buy a couple things in November. Lol.

Found an ad on CL. Think this guy is nuts! http://lacrosse.craigslist.org/grd/2514993446.html 15.00 a PIECE for a ROOSTER. Who pays that kind of money for a ROOSTER!? I know I sure wouldn't. Unless it is some top of the line bird that would improve genetics in a flock. But it doesn't say that.

Anyone here interested in an Arab horse or two? My mom was involved in a big rescue effort this past December in Wood County. There was several horses that were in a pasture that was attached to a house that the owners left. They were divorcing or something along those lines and they left the horses in the pasture without food or water. My mom's friend (who was a neighbor to this couple) actually went over there and made sure the horses had food and water. So they called and called and called and finally the humane officer went out and Wood County took over the horses and they were turned over to my mom and her horsey friends. They rehabilitated them (they were full of worms, severely malnourished, hadn't had their hooves trimmed in god knows how long, etc...). Well, we are happy to report now that they are all ready to go to their new homes. I am not sure if you can see this link or not.... http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1971653292137.2101086.1267148368&type=1 but that is an album on facebook with the horses that are now looking spiffy! Here is a link to her blog post about the horses: HERE, HERE and HERE and one last update HERE . If anyone is interested. If not, and you know of someone who might be... please cross post this.

Good evening,, FT, that guinea sign on 52 is probably Marlene's/ (my guinea lady) she sets it up just west of Nutterville .. that is where her road intersects with hwy 52..

I took the brooder/patio doors because Annie and this lady had it all hashed out that I would.. when I saw it, I knew I didn't really have a place to set it up.. but how do you tell somebody, "not interested" ? she was so anxious to get rid of it.. It would make one whole nice wall for a green house.. come and get them.. Insulated glass.. metal clad frames.

It is supposed to rain tomorrow, so I went out after supper and finished tilling the rest of the garden.. tomorrow morning I think I will take some old hay and mulch the kale before it rains..

I have tomatoes on.. I should get out there and tie the plants to the stakes.. I might try pruning a couple of plants, too. see if that makes any difference on tomato setting or size..

have tiny Jalepeno peppers on, too..

I will not be able to till the corn again.. I could hardly find my way between the rows today..

The welder man did one of the old tiller tines.. I decided to not have this set done just yet.. there are a couple of them bent and I want to try to straighten them before I spend the money welding on them..

Thursday a lady is coming for 15 keets.. any bets ??

BOO! Wake Up call! LOL

Snake Ladies... (hehehe) My favorite snake we had was a Fox Snake. He was the sweetest thing. Loved attention! From what I have heard the Dwarf versions of snakes seem to have more health problems. Much like any type of animal inbreed to carry a recessive gene. So it probably was genetics and nothing you did.

Lending out... Do kids count w/ that?

GC... Take it easy! Put yourself in "Supervisor" mode!

When I was on BR I learned a new craft. That helped take my mind off things a bit. And, Can you draw out a "plan" for your duck pen and get someone else to build it?

dkv... any news on that calf? Love that pic !

At least Ruddy (the new dog) will learn a boundary and keep the chickens from wondering! Sure wish I could find where those D@mn chickens are hiding eggs! I'm loosing 4-6 a day!

Night!

Very stormy morning here, thunder and lightening rolling across the sky and we now have a dog with storm anxiety! Wouldn't you know it the Irish Setter freaked out and took apart the door to her crate(which is the strongest crate we have-it's a travel crate)and got out.

barnie.gif
This is the one who got out of her crate last fall and took apart our brooder(yes with chicks in it) and ripped the hidden side of the couch-so we crate her when we aren't home and at night to keep her out of trouble and safe. Probably will be talking to her vet today as to how to help her....

Well, got all the onions ready and soaking so we can pickle them and have the pickles soaking in ice cold water so they can be done today as well. DD is going to a friends house mid-day and sleep over so I get anothe day to spend at home working on things here.

DD played softball last night- last one before this coming weekend tourny- the girls have struggled this season-1st year that they have played with the kids pitching(she's in U12 fast pitch softball)and have probably won 1 game out of the 6 double header games played. They play friday at noon and depending on the out come either play again friday or play sat am- just have enough kids to play, thought that after last night they might not have enough as kids/parents who had committed for the tourny were all of a sudden crabby at the game times we are scheduled. DH is one of the coaches, along with another dad and they just about pulled the plug but it sounds like the guy who runs the program overall had some kids from the other U12 team that could play. So we'll see how it goes- not sure if I will make the games(or how many) as we have 2 units needing to be cleaned and ready for Aug1st.

Promised the kids an egg dish so best get to it! Stay dry

Good Stormy Morning All! Looks like an inside day today except for some things in the garage. dk good luck on the job! Sounds like it would be very rewarding and chalenging. challanging chillinging cellery. Yup FT drywall went on in one day, no mistakes. Wiring was planned out b4 and will finish that today. On to taping and mudding, paint, and trim.

Dornes I have a neighbor that is not all there and the county took his horses thought you were talking about him until I read more. Good neighbor Donny had given him some young roo's to raise for food and he fed them nothing but bread, of course they starved to death. His horses were eating the siding on his house they were so starved. He bought a harp because he liked harp music, couldn't play it

Think some cassettes would have been the way to go. I could tell you stories for hours about him. The boy ain't right. Hope that calf gets help soon! CC didn't know they ate the beetles but that would explain the significant drop in their numbers around here. GC hope things smooth out with the prego mode! TO sounds like your duckies are having a ball with their new source of food.

Well that's all I can member right now sooo. Mowed the front yard yesterday and it PO'd me to the point that I broke down and went and got new blades. Took an old blade with me and the guy at the blade store looked at it and said you've got to be kidding. I told him I like to get my money's worth.

was hanging over his pasture fence and all the heavy branches too. I cut it just right and only stretched the top wire a little.
ya.gif
Went and looked at the big cottonwood the kids want for their wood stove. Stump end is around 40" going to make a ripping blade out of one of mine. Never did it before so it should be fun. They came over for boogers on the barbie and sent them home with extra's from the garden. Have about 5 qts of pickles to make today also. Better get movin! Enjoy your day!

Was sent over here from another cheesehead that responded to my auction in the "other" category. Can I put the link here?

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=545923

If you think my prices are out of line, let me know. I know what I paid for the ducklings and shipping - and what I've fed them to get them to this point.

Oh..I'm between St. Paul, MN and Eau Claire, WI - just north of I-94 in St. Croix County.
