Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

That is SO EXCITING! I just love going in the coop and hearing that noise! Will be about 2 and a half weeks yet for me....but hopefully I will have babies from H&R to enjoy in the mean time. Set that last banty last night--I got sick of her stealing the nest from the other one so now she has her own. I have so many eggs that I dont know what to do with them! Really need to get some pigs! (or some customers!) Last week I took 8 doz and gave them to the people at the bank! Maybe I could pay some bills with them?

I just read the whole cheeseheads thread from the beginning this morning...raining and I am procrastinating about going outside. I feel like I know you guys even better now--like old friends! I was hoping for a nice sunny day to drive to Milw. Oh well, at least I wont be wasting it in the car!Making some pot roast in the slow cooker for tonight. MMMM--good rainy day food. The venison was just OK last night. I think I broiled it a tad long and it was from out "dill freezer" so it tasted like dill. NOte to all of you...if you pick dill from the garden and want to save it until the pickles are ready to can; be sure to wrap it REALLY WELL before you put it in the freezer! Unless you like the flavor of dill permeating into everything!!! Guess I should have just hung it and dried it! The funny thing is, the cukes never really produced last year so I hardly used any of that dill! Joke's on my I guess--so much for being prepared. I think there is a saying somewhere...don't count your chickens......?

Off to the feed mill for me! I am out of corn and my geese are MAD! They are out enjoying the tender greens coming in the rain but every time I let the dogs out they yell for me to get their corn down there! Better get on with it--rain or no rain....YUK--I hate rain...and mud! I need to find a solution.....anyone?

Have a great/wet day! Terri O

Idea for you Terri, but I don't know if it'll work. Planks. Planks over the mud to walk on. Your farm is probably really big. I don't know. Might be too big.

And I LOVE dill. I just chop it up and stick it in freezer bags and take pinches out as I go. Great on fish!

Terry O has babies, Terry O has babies:clap:ya:weee.

Came home from doing a few stops in town to find that BLUE has at least 2 fuzzy butts under her-one is yellow and has been hiding and peeling out for under her!! Of course the 4 year old thinks he now has 4 babies:he

Afternoon... Congrats to both of you with the new peeps! It just doesn't get any better, eh!

Broody moms are great....They are so much fun.

Just heard on the radio that a Amish family in Clark County was being sued for not complying to the NAIS sign-up. In court today the Amish farmer won. Because of his religion, he doesn't have to sign up. The Government agreed that having his address was enough information to be able to locate the animals......what? I went to church today....the wrong religion I guess...

Well Bigz...I guess I am next...I am non-compliant also. SSHHHHH! I dont want anyone to know! Whoops! Will you all come and visit me in jail? I think it is ridiculous...we will be microchipping our kids next--well, maybe that would be a good idea! Bad enough that everything I sell has to have tags in ears etc.Ticks me off! I understand your rant.

I am snacking on some HBEs that I made according to directions at the recipe thread for easy peel method. It works! The yolk id dead center and day old eggs are practically jumpoing out of the shell! Dogs get a treat tonight too!.

I cant believe I have babies!!! Now the question is....what in the world am I to do with all these babies??? That is what DH asked every time I said, "set another hen." this week. That swap is coming up right?

The pot roast is really starting to smell good! I LOVE pot roast. I hated it when I was a kid--go figure! Well, maybe it's that home grown beef? Well, neighbor grown in my case...OK--it is nice out, my eggs are done and I need to go and water. Why they need water when it is so wet I will never know...but they do! TTYL--Terri O

(PS) Great job little blue hen!

Here's the pics. The first pic was taken litterally minutes after coming out of the egg. The next 2 pics were taken about 2 hours after birth.

Thanks for sharing some pics.... I hope everything goes well for mom and her new peeps.

H&R sorry but this borrowed hard drive I'm using won't read pdf files. We are planning on a new set-up with the tax refund we will be receiving this year. My daughter was given our puter and we put together a working for now temp system.

Keep the pics coming. It's lonesome here on the hill....

Go ahead and toss the carrots and potatoes right in the roast for the last 45 minutes or so....
