Now that was just plain mean BCC! I nearly cried!

I was just thinking today that I might put it off a little longer than hatching around the 1st of May. As your well aware I'm retiring on the 23rd of April. I think I really really need to go up north and sit by the water and watch the river flow for a looong weekend. Maybe catch a fish or two. My good neighbor will take care of the adults but don't feel right leaving the chicks alone. I'd like to be here. Laura would be up there with me from Friday till Sunday and could handle the adults but she's a city girl and might freak if she had to take care of the peepers. She likes them but has made it clear that they are my chickens. I think they scare her a little. I'm still thinking on the time frame. I just want what's best for them. [And me] So there it is.

Afternoon...Thanks for sharing all the pics. Those are a bunch of nice looking peeps everyone has.

Saved myself any grief and had the John Deer Dealer press the races out and install the new ones. Ten minutes and $12...worth every penny. Had a few guiness today and enjoyed the Sun!

Pruned one apple tree today..4 more to go...6 beers each = a whole case, eh!

Had a couple red tailed hawks today looking over the hens while they were out. Plenty of spruce for them to get away though.

Doc your right about that being a nice fricken fish...

Gonna help the guys from church cut up 3 elm tommorrow. Our church has a 60 acre camp with everything. main building with fireplace, showers, bunks, full kitchen....outside shelter, horseshoe pits, basketball, fire pits, areas for camping, set up for 12 rv's, etc.... we rent the facilities out for family reunions, or what ever the reason...very reasonable. Just thought I'd share my thoughts.

Good Morning!

Well it looks like we have finished incubating-so Terry O now has 6 chicks that Blue hatched out and 12 chicks that our incuabtor hatched. (The last 2 eggs were no good and when I checked they were pretty far along and then stopped) We moved the incubator chicks to a brooder and they are eating and drinking great. So Terry O let me know when you want to get them!!

BCC-Those are some awsome looking chickens, is it hard to keep the legs feathers in good condition?

BigBadCryBaby can you post spme pics of your new chicks you picked up yesterday?

I'll see if I can get a good picture of Terry O's chicks and post it.

Its hard in the winter, but when its warm not so bad, you keep them on wood shavings, and grass, dew actuality help keep the feathers in condition.

ok gotta ?? do any of you have a woodchuck prob.. .. i saw one chasing my ducks today or mabey he just happened to be crossing the yard and they were just in the way???
i am missing on rooster dont know where he disappered too .. hubby said he did hear a coyote the other am when he got home at 4 but it was foggy and i did not see or hear him when my birds were out after 630

the farmer behind me did not think a wood chuck would bother my birds but just curious if any of you have had any probs with them??

any help would be great ......

The only part of spring I don't like.

Great action at the bird feeders this morning though. Just saw a cardinal and a northern flicker on the post at the same time - such beauties! And waking up to the red-winged blackbirds singing, nothin' beats country life.

I tried to slip the two new chicks past Mom, but she was looking intensely at the brooder and I caved. I told her about the wonders of the GLW and the buff Americauna, but she wasn't having it. The one thing we have agreed on is that we really can't have any roos. I live on a farm, which is zoned Ag, but there is a subdivision directly to our west, so I'd have quite a few suburbanites up in arms. Which might not necessarily be a bad thing, right???

All you fishermen should check out what the DNR is doing here at Lake Weyauwega this week. They are netting fish in the lake to check the fish population as a part of the lake restoration. I took some amazing pics this morning! NICE bass too!

BTW, anybody want some muskrats?????
