Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

me again, I went out to lock doors. all the guineas were in their coop,, all the geese were in the chicken coop.. usually most of them were staying in the lean-to.. I caught all the Thai Fowl and put them in with the guineas.. Two of them screamed like I was going to kill them or something.. the rest just went quietly as if I caught them every day.. I hope they learn to go in by themselves, rather quickly..

Tike, i think this is just a 3 day sale for those drills.. they also had $25.oo belts that ended up free after the rebate.. Annie said that at 7AM there were racks of them.. when she went back after noon, they were almost all gone..

Menard's gets your money in the end, because the rebates are in-store purchase vouchers..

My friend's dad used to cut piglets with a single edged razor blade, He stuck it into a potato after each pig.. then poured a little Witch Hazel on the wound and turned them loose.. If there was food close by, they would go right to it and never look back.
Our job was to catch and hold the screaming animals.. 9 out of 10 would squirt pooh so you learned how to point them in the right direction very quickly..

Warning: rant ahead

Ok, one of my son's friend's parents got some chickens from me this spring. They've had chickens in the past so I gave them my favorites figuring they'd be well cared for. It was kind of a red flag when she was trying to buy call ducks from me to put in a pen with her roens, but I told her no and that was the end of it. I went over there tonight. The chickens are in the ducks old pen. The ducks are in the yard with no shelter. The trailer for housing the chickens had the door wide open. It never gets shut. 1/2 the chickens were sleeping in a tree with a turkey. A rooster was on the ground and looked like he may alreaady have frostbite on his comb. I wish everyone would care for their chickens properly, especially in winter! The reason she wanted some from me is because predators got the others. You think? No wonder mine are in a tree. I think they have too many animals and can't or don't want to care for the ones that don't make them money. I seriously don't want to sell any animals to anyone anymore. Angiebubs is an exception. Her chickens are very well cared for and loved.

Good evening! My long-winded friend just left. She bought herself a fish dinner and came here to eat it...I made myself an omelet. SHe talked so long her fish got cold...she said her BF's Dad had something like Brent had. Going in for surgery on Wednesday. I hope all turns out well for him too.

Nice to hear from you H&R! THe Cuckoo boys I got from you are growing steadily...but they dont have any "male" urges as yet! I am glad cause there are quite a few roos in that pen! When they are a little older I will move them with their hens to private accommodations. THe hens are just starting to lay again....got 3 really nice dark eggs from them today!

BBP--small wonder that your friends' poultry got eaten...gotta close those doors! Speaking of: I had a ruckus outside last night and went out in my jammies and slippers...the geese were all bunched up by the barn door and the guineas were by the coop on the ground. I herded them all into the barn and closed the door again. Today I found a headless guinea under the tree! Yup, I do believe the owl is back for a bit! Man, the 'coons just go to sleep and ya have to worry about the owls! I was able to get half of the guineas in tonight but there are still 6 in the tree! I set the trap under the tree with the remains of the guinea in it so maybe I will catch something? I did get a Great horned owl once in that trap...my neighbor said it probably beat me back to the farm...I set it loose down near the river! I just wish the darn birds would go into the shed on the rafters for the night...they go into the coop during the day and roost in there and then retire to the trees for the night!

Well I guess I am going to head off to bed...really tired after cooking and working out in the cold too! NIght! Sleep tight and dont let the bedbugs bite! Terri O

Hahaha jim you called me Tike!!! Thats funny ,,,cause I call my dog that!!! Missed out on the Menards sale. Yea I am not much for the rebates that offer in store credit. Kinda Sguigs! Not a big sender inner either!

Went out in the coop and realized I hadnt put plastic over the windows. No wonder. After I did that the coop was much more comfortable. I have to go back out (Brrr) and check to see if light is on. sigh

BBP I had an incident last year with someone who was going to take care of the chickens I sold her oh so well. Same thing.

Annoying to say the least.

On my trip to Osseo last week I chased 2 guineas off the road because they were lazing in the road. I thought I really didnt want to go that way home. (thinking bad thoughts) Sure enough on the way home I saw one laying still in the middle of the road. So Sad.

It is 2 degrees outside. Been making christmas cookies. Nice to have plenty of eggs. Havent checked on the chickies yet but their coop is heated so they are fine. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 37 so it will be a good day for coop cleaning

Stay warm everyone

TO... d@mn owl's

Read all the posts hours ago so DRS! Not much to report either. All the girls are about the same .... still waiting for more healing. Seems like the only ones that want to go out are the roos and the guineas in short runs. Now and then a hen or 2 will venture out, but not for long. Some of them haven't been out since it hit under 40! I did see "Storkey" hanging out with Lacey's kids a few times! Even heard him/her make chicken noise!

Had veggie soup and home made rolls for supper... ate too much! (I blame it on the new soup bowls

) Stuffed as I was I'm glad I didn't have barley! Would have been even more filling! Thinking next soup a potato and bacon

Will see.... nothing like soup in winter!

good morning, went to bed early, for me that is, slept fine..

Dave posted the same thing twice,, must be a school teacher thing,, having to repeat and repeat..

I am in no hurry to go out and check on the birds.. I can tell from the kitchen window that the coops have not burned down, that is good enough for me until after I have my coffee..

I should do something , anything, just so I have something to write about.

the first goose eggs are due in about 10 days.. maybe I will break from tradition and candle a few..

Tike, I caught that after I hit submit,, too lazy to edit.. Dog's name ?? Oh well, maybe now you will come when you are called..

I know birds have no business on a road, but it still irks me that so many people will run them over, just because they can.. write it off to a very low IQ.. my birds occasionally find the road.. and some have been hit.. I have the guineas for pest control, so I have to let them run free, or what would be the sense of having them?

OK TerriO, one, two, three, hit submit....

either that or I have bad internet.
I finally hauled my butt t the coop after I walked the chows. They were putzing around, and love the weather. I think it dropped down to 0 by the time I got back in.
I got 5 eggs from 7 birds, I have to check later for 2 more. The coop was nice and toast, the chickens all ran out when I opened their coop, they got their seeds and corn. Not sure if they ran back in, I sure in the heck did. going to make more christmas cookies today, seems that the boys wiped out the 5 dozen or so I made last week. I am gonna have to hide them or lock them in my trunk. Gotta love teenagers, eat and eat and eat and they still stay thin. I eat a cookie and gain 5 pounds.

stay warm everyone.

Dave, if you are so heII bent on going outside, why not come over here and check my chickens ??

And locking up the boys might not be a bad idea to save the cookies..
