Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My Boy (DS4) and I put up another roost and a storage area over the radiant heater. Made a quick and easy cookie tin water heater for $4. The water won't freeze any more and I have a new water stand...

The Seramas are doing fine and the new peeps are going to experience alfalfa hay today since we cleaned up the first 3 weeks of droppings. Now we are off to deal with a variety of errands and then to a church movie at another church where we can watch "The Nativity Story"

Needless to say it is a working day with lots to do on Family day!

You are an evil man Jim! I told that to DH and he said. "nice." Hoping he doesnt take any lessons from you--cause I sure wont take any from Annie!

the reason you protect inside birds is because they are kept warm and do not develop their winter feathers.. More of a problem with caged birds than free rangers..

Agreed...that is exactly why I dont give my birds supplemental heat!

YOu should talk MLH...naming your kitten Evil Kitten! What were you saying about living up to names?

Guess what? Coldest day so far and it is TURKEY HATCHING DAY! Of course! I went out to check the trap and feed (nothing caught) an heard cheeping coming form the shed. Sure enough, one of the eggs had pipped but couldnt get through the membrane(and died) and there was another one pipped and cheeping. SO I threw out the dead one. She has 3 more besides the pipped one.

I wonder if any will make it? And of course the next question...where will I put a new turkey mom and her babies? I guess I'd better go outside and get a door made on that last pen...I have been putting it off for quite some time now. No sense doing it while it was warm out ya know...wait--didnt some one already say that? Or several someone's?

Gotta eat some eggs and then out to the cold once again...at least it is sunny! Terri O

(PS) Jim put those gloves on the stove and dry 'em out before night chores! Ken enjoy your movie! That sounds fun.

Wow lots of chuckles from reading your posts!

I guess baking is done in the middle of the night/early morning hours. ~ thus no baked goods here. Bought a pie at NorskeNook the other day.

Now I know why they can charge so much.

GhostRider that is a nice coop. I have no advice though, now.

ya Cindlady darn owls

When I was little, one of our Christmas family traditions was decorating the tree and then having the cat ride it to the ground(floor) at least two times a day while mom went nuts as if it was a big surprise.

I find wet gloves are better than no gloves though. Usually.

Ninjetta is cute. Looks like a spitfire.

I need more straw, something I will do on Monday, for the attic of the coop. Mister is going to have to come down out of there. The plastic I had on my greenhouse addition has blown back over the coop. So I need to reenforce the top with some wood strips. Whenever the wind stops.

I have too many mini sections in my coop to buy heated waterers~maybe I will make some. Mini coop is warm enough. Good because there are some chickies in there with mamas. only a few.

Bye for now.

well TerriO, we didn't post at the same time, but I was reading when you posted.. we still got it ..

If you can make the turkey comfortable, she will take care of the babies..

got lots of back-up gloves, but it is always my favorite ones that get wet.. prolly cause they are the first ones I grab..

the heated hose is working, now that I changed that outlet.

I still have to extend the temporary kitchen drain farther away from the house.. the geese are liking the warm puddle at the end of the pipe I ran out.. by the end of winter, I should have quite a skating rink out there.. It is 3 feet in diameter already..

I was out for just a few minutes.. it is not bad, like it was yesterday.. Funny how quickly we adapt,, I didn't even put on a coat or gloves..

Hey all again LOL can you tell it's cold outside I been on and off the puter all day usually I'm outside all day........
anyway several have mentioned supplemental heat, I've heard that is not a good idea but when it gets 40 below or more I may turn on a heat lamp or 2 if needed,
but is that a good idea? most people have said they don't need the heat but if it would help my sneezy chickens I would plug it in, it's been hanging there since spring when they first went outside in May / June...... when they were big enough, and it was warm enough LOL that can sure vary here can't it........bbbbrrrrrrrrrr

BRRRR! Tried to lock up early...the birds are having none of it! I did get the guineas in the coop for the night. They key is to get out there just before they start going up on the roof and then to the trees. Now if I can only remember to do it for a few nights they might get the idea!
The goats knocked down their fence...I was wondering why I could see them in the pasture

I got them in OK but the 2 horses went out. I left them out there...hopefully they will want to come back in when we get home!
We are braving the weather and going to the dog park to the "Bark at the Moon" event. They do it every full moon and you can stay in there past dark. Usually you have to be out. The dogs sREALLY need to burn off some steam! They have been too cooped up and are pretty wild. I think they can read me tyoing cause they are millling around--doesnt help that it is their dinner time either. Good we will be able to get them gathered up easy then! LOL--gotta run! Terri O

Chilly evening all, just came in from putting up lights and getting them all lit up. Still have a few more to put up, maybe tomorrow during the day... now to try and warm up.

DD baked some cookies today and we'll try to mix up some more after eating

stay warm!!

Evening All... thanks for sharing all the nice pics!

H&R what's your set-up for dead of winter hatching? Do you have facilities inside for the peeps til Spring? I guess it would be nice to have new pullets laying by june 1st or shortly after!

Hope we hit 40 degrees tomorrow

I need to fix my snowblower, but didn't want to do it the last few days. Just received the parts in the mail awhile ago, and have been putting it off....just hate to have to actually do something. Nice when it's fixed for sure, and I need to use it.

Hi all--just got back from the dog park. It was really nice, they had a tent set up with a heat blower and chili and coffee and hot chocolate. We got 2 tickets...DH got the chili and I got the coffee
roll.png
We met a few new friends and some old too. LOTS of people there. One of the park guys said that at 2 when it started there were about 70 dogs there! There were only 25 or so there with us at 5:30. Still a whole bunch of dogs running around for sure!

Bummer about Ryan Braun...I wonder if he did take steroids? That is really a black mark on him! Wonder how that will all shake out?

I hope for your sake Bigz that it gets warmer...it is really a bummer trying to do stuff with freezing fingers! I was cursing the cold last night when I was trying to set that &*#^$@!& trap!!! It has never worked properly! I tried to get a new Hav-a-hart trap like my old one (that DH ran over with the skid loader) and the one I got is made very cheaply and they added a bunch of "safety" features that make it really hard to set. It really bothers me that companies cant leave a product alone that works good! I am going to go to F&F tomorrow and see if they have the "old" style. I got this one a few years ago from TSC--it came with a little trap too so I thought I was getting a good "deal." NOT!

Hey Jim--go over to the OT site again...there is a guy on there that made a post that could have been written by you! It was very interesting and whole bunch of folks agreed with him too. I dont think you are banned...

Ok gotta catch up with stuff and get my stray horses back in so they have a bit of protection tonight!
Nighties--Terri O
