Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning!

DrHa Good luck with the tractor - I KNOW how frustrating that can be. I'm about as mechanically inclined as my dog... I can fix just about everything else, but if it runs on gas... I'm worthless.

The Wild Turkey was slow cooked on the grill and turned out pretty tough. I ended up making Turkey salad - great on toast. Split it up and gave my Brother half. He seemed to like it good enough.

I've been doing A LOT of reading on Quail. I think I'm gonna give it a shot if these mink cages come through... I'm gonna go with the Jumbos I think. I see you can get 100 fertilized eggs on Ebay pretty cheap. I'll wait till it warms up a bit though..LOL

I've been working on that darn wood stove in the garage now for a couple of days... Needed to beef up the sides and put new firebrick in it (had quite a bit of firebrick stacked in the basement when I moved here). Today, my Dad dropped off a pipe crimper (which should make routing the stove pipe a lot easier)... If this doesn't work, I'll be in the market for a new stove for the garage.... Keep your eyes and ears out for me.

We didn't get a lot of snow - barely enough- but enough to have to shovel.

The Chickens are happy and said to say HI!

Laters...

Morning All!
I have a great news!! Cali is in labor!!! Yeah!! I actually thought the Campaign was due to day but nope it's Cali!! She has her box slid sideways in her cage for more privacy so I can't see if they are alive and ok or if she ate them. I 'll look again later. Don't want to disturb her to much . Rabbits are funny that way.
So that means the Campaign is due day after tomorrow and the buck is fertile!!!!! That is great news!

I'm going to set up the bator today as the eggs arrive at the PO tomorrow. I'll let them set for 24 hrs then set them. We'll see how it all works out.

I have to sat the for me the new site is faster then the old one but I use Google Chrome. I'm with you BBP. I'm still not to sure if I like the new site or not. I guess once I get used to it more it won't be so bad.

Happy Anniversary FT!! Hope you have a nice one!

Cind-I'm with you on the egg thing. I never give mine freshly cracked eggs. I know so many people who do and never have a problem but I myself have had problems with egg eaters so if they get eggs they are always cooked. I also never give then egg shell. Even thought chickens only have 4 taste buds, those little suckers sure love the taste of all things chicken!!

Tom-if you want to try quail, try the Texas A&M's. They are a meat quail and those were the first breed I hatched. Actually the only breed I've hatched but they sure were fun. DH ordered a boat load of eggs super cheap last year and tossed them in my bator. I kind of neglected them but the hatch went well and those suckers came out of the eggs like popcorn in a hot popper. They were the silliest things. They'd lay in the brooder flat our, legs all askew and you'd think they died. They'd get this feeling that they were being watched, crack open an eye and pop up. My border collie loved their food so his big old fat head was always in their brooder. They were not really afraid of dogs....

bf4-good luck with the hatch!

Ok-gotta get myself going!
Later!

Well the Fjord lives.

Speaking of vehicles. Our truck and trailer license are due at the end of the month, Shoot the car too. Anyway someone told us we can register our trailer (stock trailer) and truck as farm use and it would be cheaper. Anyone know about that? Anything to save a buck !!

CC did you get your bator today in the mail ?
.

Nada on the bator. Had a brain fart reading the e-mail from UPS. It said delivery on the 24th & for some reason my brain assumed the 24th was Monday. Duh! But it should

be here this afternoon.

Yes, you can register your truck & trailer as farm use vehicles. We did that for our dump truck since we hardly ever use it anymore. As long as you are mostly using them for farm-type purposes, like hauling hay, feed or animals, or mostly using the vehicle only on your property, you can do it. I wouldn't try it on a vehicle you use on the road alot, though. I can't remember the exact criteria, but I'm sure you can find more info on the DMVs website. The nice thing about having farm plates is they are cheaper and you only have to register them every 2 or 3 years.
Ah, here it is:

And if I forgot to mention before, happy anniversary, FT & ET!

Cind, you are so right about the ignorance is bliss sentiment. And I wouldn't tempt fate by breaking a raw egg out by my birds either. That is one hard habit to break. Oh, I've been meaning to ask, how has the new kitten been? Last I remember hearing, it snuck out, maybe at night? Can't recall the details. I hope he's ok.

DrH, yes it's a staggered hatch, and no new additions. There are still 5 chicks and 2 eggs under mom but I think she's getting a little stir crazy. I'm thinking maybe of firing up the bator as soon as it gets here & sticking those last 2 in it when it gets up to temp.

Congrats, MLH! I hope the buns make it! First timers aren't too good at it, though.

Glad you finally got that Ford running, DrH. Now you just need to find a nice spot to park it so you can plant flowers around it & use it for the lawn decoration that it is.

Just having a few eggs for lunch...and an apple. I have groceries to put away yet...just did the frozen stuff. I really need to clean out y refrigerator before putting anything else in there! What a mess! I can never understand how people can keep their fridges so clean! It seem like even if I do it every week it gets trashed! I dont even have little kids around here either! (It must be DH--LOL!)

Cool about you thinking about quail Tom! I will advise you NOT to keep them in your basement though! THat is where I have mine...they are behind a closed door and the dust still is covering everything down there! Who would think they could be so dusty? I love the eggs...I make them pickled and eat them fresh. I have yet to eat one of the birds though...they are just so cute! Wgeb you hatch I would be glad to trade some with you for new blood in my flock.

Glad you got the Ford running DrH! I know how much that eats at you men if something isnt right! Well, the dog is ringing the bell to go out...I better let her! Later all! TErri O

CC that hurt! All tractors are great! But only when their running. See I didn't pick on your Farmall. Hope your last two hatch out without having to fire up the new bator. Natural childbirth ya know. Bf4 any news yet? Silly question! MLH

on the bunnies! And good luck on bating! The older kids are coming out in the sun and WALKING on the snow. Think they've had enough of each other being in the coop for so long.
