Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well, the start of my day was interesting. I was having a bad pain night/day so I couldn't fall asleep 'till almost 7 (am).Son woke me up at noon but I laid there because I was still having pain and the morning stiffness to boot. Ruddy started barking so I got up to see. Not a good walk to the door but saw the mail truck leave. (OK, someones meds are here) Went back to lay down and try to un-siff some more. A few minutes latter Ruddy is barking again. Son just got back in his room from stoking the fire and I didn't want to move again so we ignored him.Figured he was barking at something stupid again. Next thing we know a fireman is at the BRs asking if we're alright!!! (Ruddy is still barking) So I get up in all my bed head glory and go with the 4 firemen and 2 sheriffs to look at the wood burner. (and Ruddy is still barking)
Guess when the mail gal was here she saw the smoke from son stoking the fire and thought we had a chimney fire.!!! Well, the firemen did a check of everything and at least we know we shouldn't burn down! LOL They did find one spot near the stove that we should shield a bit better but it dose barely pass. Ruddy barked the whole time they were here! Yes, good boy for bring protective, but the constant barking just added to the stress and drove everyone nuts!

So that is how my day is going! Glad I don't have to go anywhere.
Time to take my pills and stumble down to the chickies.

C U later!

Get the biggest bag of the medicated feed. Feed it all and when it is done you can put them on non medicated if you want. That is what alot of people do !!

I would suggest Nutrena but since MLH's husband doens't think silkies and turkens are real chickens well
tongue.gif
I won't !! He ought to watch himself here. All of the Nutrena customers with Puffy chickens !!

Just you all wait. I have to clean my brooder before I take any pictures. Then you will see what REAL chickens look like !!

Cind, TG there wasn't really a fire. Hope if there ever is the Mail Carrier doesn't ignore it ! Well, Hope you never have to find out !!

So I'm up and Adam !! Gotta go get gas and move the tractor. Kind of looking forward to it !!! If you don't hear from me again means, well, I'm froze to the ground. OM won't get home til after 9 tonight to find me.
I shouldn't joke. One of my Dad's best friends had a heart attack on his tractor and they found him later, and it was winter.

Sun is shinning. Might take a few pictures while I'm out and give the horses some more carrots ~!!!

Make sure you have your cell phone with you! And that goes for EVERYBODY! I learned a long time ago never to step, oh ok, roll, out the door without it, regardless of your age or the weather. You just never know when you might need it.

Afternoon all!
Just thought I'd check in before I get on with the rest of my day. I have to pick up DH from the Milwaukee airport so I'm not sure if I'll make it back on today.

Cali had 2 babies so far. both dead. One was kicked out of the nest and the other was in the front of the nest box. I'm not sure if there are more. She was not to thrilled to have me messing around in her cage getting the deceased ones out. She was getting very protective of her nest box so I just left her be. So far I like her attitude regarding her nest. Makes me think that the next litter she has will make it.

CC-I agree, first time rabbit moms suck. After the first little they usually have it all figured out. If by the third litter they still suck, I process them. I think the New Zealand, Lucy, will be one of those. I've never had a doe keep her first litter.

Cind-glad your ok and no fire happened. I hope you feel better soon!

DrH (and CC!)-just wait until I get my chicks...This will be war I tell you! You two are killing me with Extreme Cuteness over here!

Bf4- Dumor is made by Purina for TSC. Mounds usually carries Purina of some form. It may or may not be medicated. If you can't find medicated, don't panic. While it is nice to have that option a good chick starter is the key. You may have to grind it into a mash (up here in the Mid West they refer to it as meal) for the first 3-7 days if the crumble is "course". If the chicks kick it around, that might mean they are looking for small enough pieces to eat. I mash my chick start by putting it in my blender.

FT-Har Har....Har...DH never said anything about Turkens

....LOL!!! Besides...you should have seen his face the first time he saw a baby frizzle..he was smitten..Those backwards feathers really got to him. It's all for show....he's a big softy when it comes to chicks of any sort. I catch him watching the little ones all the time. When the little fuzzies take dust baths that's when he melts....
I bet if I ever got silkies, they's become HIS chickens.....
DrH-when I first read your comment about your Fjord, I though when did DrH get a horse?

Ok well I'd best be off...I have to feed the dogs in about 30 mins to get to the airport on time, and I need to recheck Cali.
Chat soon

Evening All....what the heck Cind...sure hope you are feeling better soon. Nothing worse than being down. That had to be scary to see the firemen wanting to turn on the hose! I'm glad they checked things out and you're on the safe side...

I agree with FT and you should buy the big bag of medicated feed and feed til it's gone...way cheaper in the long run and you can feel good cause the flock has aquired immunity. If anyone remembers the sad gal that bought a bird at the bash last year and found out it had bloody poo (prolly cocci) and left the forum prolly because of that...is reason enough....nuff said.

Nice chick pics...thanks for sharing... hope I can share some in April too.

Forgot to mention about susie running off the road....glad you're safe...it's dang dangerous out there....smart move on your part...cars are cheap....life is priceless. Hope you can make tha bash again, at least you know the way.

Heck Ya CC...go ahead and plug er in and see if you can be a broody hen too!

Nothing new here really..... bigz

Hi all! The dog got a prescription for some pain killers...she has no arthritis and no tissue swelling. They did x-rays and everything...I just said "put it on the farm bill." I really didnt want to know! SO she is happy now...not limping any more. The vet said to keep her quiet--yeah right! She's a Border Collie! Although she is laying down nice now....if I can keep the other dogs from playing with her she should be OK.
My scalloped potatoes should be ready in 15 mins or so...this is the first time I have made them GF so I hope they are OK. They sure smell great right now!

BigFam--I agree with the others that you should get one bag and feed it out. I have heard that is the best way to go. I myself, do not feed a medicated feed. Most of my chicks are hatched with broodies and they eat what they can find. I have very few chick deaths. Even those that are in the incubator I use game bird for feed. No problems so far....

I hope it continues!

I think the dinner is done! Later peeps! Terri O

(PS) Where had WIChCh been? Hey girl--call me!
Also--thanks for the link on the incubator CC! I am going to Milw. to pick it up tomorrow!

No way! Really? Well, that's cool. I'm glad I saw it & posted it then.

I got my bator today! Plugged 'er in & let it run for about 4-4 1/2 hours before putting the last 2 eggs in it. One of them is pipped too. I sure hope everything goes ok.
fl.gif
We were really debating on whether to put them in or leave them with mom. Then the little terrorists started crawling all over them to get in & out of the nest so that made up our minds. The bator is really small, but it is really nice too. As long as it does what it's supposed to, I'll be a happy camper.

Yahoo! I'm so glad you both got incubators. I'm sure you'll have some fun and exciting things to put in them soon!!!

Ok... I get the picture. I'll buy the 50 pound bag of medicated starter feed! Glad to hear dumor or is purina based. Mcfarlanes (in town here) and mounds sell the same stuff? I'll just pick up a bag from town hooray!

Day 18 tomorrow... I can't believe I might have some baby chicks this weekend !!!!!!!
