I agree Ken...the 2012 Black Ale is tasty. I've tried a few 6 er's...never saw it offered in 12 packs.

Kim...the guy in Amherst has EE's. Fair price too.

The guy in Amherst gets his birds from either Cackle Hatchery or Ideal. I can't remember which. For some reason I'm thinking Ideal because he was going to get me lavender silkies and Cackle doesn't carry them.
When I met him in Wittenberg to pick up the peahen I asked him if he was going to be selling chicks again and he didn't know at that time if he was going to. I know he had some health issues a year ago or so and I think was playing it by ear.

Anyway, I remember I got some polish from him. And the other ones we ordered were for my neighbor who was just getting into chicks. I can't remember exactly what he got. I do remember vaccinating all of them with the mareks vaccine for him though because I didn't order them vaccinated. At that time we met him in Rhinelander at the Farmers Market spot where they had an animal swap going on. Come to think of it, it was the year before last. Because last year I ordered my own.
I looked at his list. I sure would love some Large Fowl Turkens !!! but there would have to be another pen. And I would like a Cuckoo Maran rooster too but I only have one hen so that may be a waste of time too !! I have Black Copper Maran and Splash Maran Roosters I could breed her to to make some more dark egg layers.j
I need more chickens like I need a hole in my head !! Just put 14 eggs in lockdown. Oh and my Buff silkie hen hatched out a Lavender split chick last night. I went down to bring the eggs up to put in lockdown and one had hatched. I didn' have the heart to take it away from MaMa but I have found dead chicks in with that trio in the past so keeping my fingers crossed that they raise this one ok. It is black and silver chipmunk color.

Still waiting to hear from the guy with the piglets !!! I called him today and he said he couldn't talk but promised to call me back soon. Something is going on. I sure hope it isn't anything to serious. He's a nice guy.

By the way, who's big bird brained idea was it to start hatching this early anyway ................. CC ????? Bf4 ??????
If this keeps up I'll be living outside with the pig, the chicks will have taken over my house !!! Hopefully they will all hatch out and I can vaccinate them on the weekend with DH's help. Then in a few weeks find room for them in the basement !!!

It had to have been CC. She's sweet and all, but a very corrupting influence if you ask me!

I feel so bad for you too FT. You must have been terrible in math clas because your chicken math seems to really be getting you...

I cold help you with your subtraction... Take away one lavender silkie, take away another silkie, take away another silkie = happy kids before June...

Jim your gettin the hang of it. Stick with it it'll come. So much more and it's gone. Was going to bang together another brooder yesterday then I spied a huge cardboard box. More good stuff! Have at least one chick makin bad noises. Almost like it's trying to crow.

I tell it You stop that right now! Have been driving myself nuts looking at a new wood furnace. I've made a final decision then changes my mind a few times. Must be my female side.

CRAP!!! Star was just found dead by one of my boys....

What do I do?! Rocket is all alone now! Is she going to die of loneliness?! Who has a chick I can have TODAY? Amherst guy won't be till Sunday or Monday (he's not good about calling people back!)

Its so sad... She's just pipping this sad sad song right now...

Good morning! Up early for me on my day off! I had to finish reading what I started last night...Good to see you are keeping up WIChCh! Sorry about Star Bigfam! That is too sad. You can put a little stuffed toy in with her...the onlies seem to like to cuddle up that way. Any idea what happened to Star? I agree...that CC is a sneaky one....and (PS) chicken math doesnt KNOW subtraction! It can only ADD!
FT do you think there is something wrong with the piglets? You said the guy was an animal dealer...sometimes they dont have the best stuff!

I sure hope I can get the truck going this morning. I am going to my neighbor's place to get some hay and straw. I REALLY need to refresh my pens! Now that the water is out of the leaky vessel in the laying coop it is better...but not great! The barn wall has been leaking steadily since I still dont have gutters on the driveway side and DH pushed all the snow up to the door. It is all running down the inside wall right in my show coop! SOGGY! So that is my project for today...then I have to move all the chicken food boxes off of the flatbed so I have somewhere to go with the hay...I think I need another barn!

I will continue to read because as of 3/10 she didnt have any wheaten in her lines of Marans; and that is the line I have? It must be from the other part. I think she might be mad when she hears this because she sounded pretty proud that she never had a wheaten pop in there...hmmmmm.

So guys...we are nearing February. THink it is time t start thinking about food for the bash? I am going to find the thread for the banner again...I asked for it the day we decided on our date and still havent heard! I think they are having problems keeping track of them--which is very sad if folks arent returning them!

I checked temps in the bator and it was good this morning...I still might transport to my client's place though. Give her something to do--watch the turner! LOL! I put my humidity gauge in and it has a thermometer on it too...yeah, that one reads 102! I think I should have calibrated the thermometer and not the hydrometer! (hygrometer?) Does anyone know the correct word? I need to google it!

Brooder too cold. The thermometer said like 70!!! Poor poor Star. I moved rocket into smaller brooder into a warmer room. She really IS a hardy one!

Wow - lots of posts to read!

Jim - I really like the plucker! I think I'm gonna raise a few meat-birds to butcher this fall (just before Hunting season). I've got a couple of electric motors laying around and was thinking of making a bench mount Plucker using a rheostat to control the speed.

Had a really weird, dark fog roll in early this morning. It hung about 12-15 feet just above the ground - almost like the clouds lost their altitude. It's almost gone now and the sun is trying to poke through. I need to get another camera....

Tonight is the first night of the Legion's Smear League (Smear is a card game). It will run every Tues night for the next 15 weeks. My Dad and I are partners. I'm really looking forward to it.

Well I sure would believe Bev Davis. Remember those eggs also come from Buddy Jeanne and Wade Henry lines. I bet the wheaten line comes from one of those.
