Who will need a decent sized house.
I'm very quickly running outa room around this yard........hehehe.. so Fred is just gotta go........... argggggggg this is so frustrating, because he;s such a nice boy, I know why people can't get rid of mean roo's, but Fred doesn't have a mean bone in his body............... Kim

good morning, had a few comments ,, drawing a blank..
speaking of MIA, anybody keeping track of Deb? she prolly has so many clothes on she can't get her arms out in front of her to type.. I purposely ordered this mild winter just for her.,

the peacocks are showing off this morning.. It looked like just a bit more directed toward the ladies than usual..

at least 2 of the turkeys are laying regularly.. we are still eating the eggs.. I don't want to start hatching quite yet..

still haven't caught the egg eating chicken.. but I will ,,,,,,,,,,,

a social worker is coming this afternoon, so Annie is in a tizzie cleaning the house.. I hide out during these episodes..

found out that Nora does not like vacuum cleaners.. she went outside and would not come back in for a few hours.. Prince does not like brooms.. If I want him to go out and he won't budge, I just say, "broom" and he flies out the door..

better go do some chores and let the guineas out..

DrH-Glad you were able to get your new furnace. Good luck finding a home for the old one!

GR65-Fred is handsome! I love him name...I have a Fred too. Mine is a dog though.... I should post his pic....

BF4-love the photos. Too cute! I really liked the gray/lavender looking chick/ That was TO's right?

I managed to get rid of 5 pullets this morning! They are going to be spoiled rotten brat hens up in Mad City. The nice man wanted 4 (the limit of hen in Madison) then he called and wanted to make it a nice number at 5! I gave him the biggest ones and tried to give him the most variety in color. Hard to do when they are all red!! But hopefully, he will be happy. Some of those girls were getting to be quite the lookers!
Well, I'd best be off!
Cheers!

How do you all add roosters to a established flock? Unless roos are raised together, the only way to add a roo is in a seperate pen right?

Another question for the experts....so when you mix two different breeds, the babies (1st generation of pure breed parents) will usually look like one or the other of the parents? I was reading above that roos carry 2 barred genes and hens 1? So for example, I have BR roos-if I mixed these with pure bred _____ the babies would for sure have barring? And when the babies come along-best bet is to sell them as day old chicks to prevent getting stuck with roos? What, if any, breeds can you tell hens/roos from a young age? Thought I read recently on this thread about wing fethers coming in brown for hens and black for roos with a particular breed?

And question #3 (is there a limit?): If you let a broody hen raise chicks....how much can you handle them? Do they need to be seperated from the rest of the flock? And if so till what age?

Peatwo likes his dress helmet too much but she can have his combat. He really likes all that chrome. Real spiffy! Have to put the forks on the tractor tomorrow and dig out a plenum thats buried in the shed. The mounting opening is the same size as the new funace. I knew I saved it for something. Good stuff!

when I introduce any chickens to the flock. I let them go freerange.. that way the less dominant one can run away from the dominant one. leaving one in a cage does nothing to help with the transition.. sometimes it makes it worse.. If they see each other daily, the antagonizem just builds up and when you turn the caged one loose, the fight starts immediately..

there is a woman in Prarie Du Sac selling chicken guard dogs.. she is on the Whizbang group. I emailed her to find out the breed of her dogs..
