Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

TO... Not a good year for your sheep and goats

Hope things get better!

Well, I read everything hours ago and now CRS!

OK, Hubby's birthday is Thur. I have 4 Angle Food Cakes to make tomorrow. I thought I would separate the eggs tonight. I had a bucket full and thought I might as well do them all and freeze what I don't use. I did 80 eggs... what a mess! I got a separator and gave up on it about half way through. Many of my eggs were just too big for it!

Oh well, that was my big day

I did take my son to town so he could get a haircut!

Night all.

Good Morning everyone !!!

Not up for good, just got up for a potty break and decided to take a shower. i fell asleep early last night so didn't get my shower in !!! So after the shower I was wide awake !!!

But now i'm fading and will go back to bed soon.

TO sorry to hear about your sheep dieing. So sad.

No plans on breeding and contributing to the pig population. Like alot of animals they have rescues all over the place and another reason, well you should know me by now, I can't sell my babies !!! LOL
They are brother and sister. If they would only have one or two babies that would be a different story but they can have upwards of 12 with the average liter being 8 !!! Try finding 8 good forever homes !!! No thank you !!!

I have an appointment for Saturday to get Porky, my 1 yr old and the new little boy neutered. I can't find a vet that will spay the female.
So just the boys will be neutered for now. That will be another road trip. The only vet that can do it is in Akron or something like that or maybe that is the name of the road !!! LOL I have what Cind has, CRS !!! LOL

I agree, you gotta have a turner with your incubator unless of course you have all the time in the world like Doc Ha does and can just sit in front of your bator all day !!!
I'm thinking of not doing the April 1st hatch but doing an Easter Hatch instead. Haven't decided yet but if i don't get my birds seperated i won't be doing any !!!
I have 3 EE x either lavender Orp or Blk Australorp eggs due to hatch on Friday. Oh and a few Dutch eggs but not holding my breath on the Dutch. Haven't hatched one yet. They seem to die off before they ever PiP !!

Ok, I'm fading, time to go back to bed !! Night all !

Just discovered that Meyer hatchery allows for small orders (3) so am trying to order-however having issues with their website!!! Any opinions on Mypetchicken vrs Meyers? Only places I can find that allow for really small orders...

Now that we are getting slightly fewer chickens I am contimplating Mypetchicken since they have what we want for the dates we want. I was going to go with Meyer but they didnt have the chicken my daughter wanted lol. This is my first year so of course no experience but I did want to let you know Meyer hatchers is having a Facebook contest to giveaway a 25 day old chicks . It ends soon so if your interested check it out.

Good Morning All! Yeah right FT all the time in the world

Angie I've ordered day old chicks from Meyer and they did a good job on shipping. They give you an extra chick just in case. Ordered females ended up with one male out 10. TO that's just sad about the ewe!

Don't think I could handle that many losses. Cind was thinking this morning that you'd better wait until I get the new stove in place before making the trip. There's a lot of loose ends right now we'll see how things progress the next couple of days. Hope everyone's hatching goes very well!

SH!T----just lost my whole post! I thoought I could recreate the situation...couldnt do it...it is something with the shift key. But I cant figure it out cause once it happens everything is GONE!

So let's see....I said good morning, gonna be sunny, hope you have heat during your "time of loose ends", name the piggies yet?, thanks for the kind words about my ewe, and nope, the bater says candle dark eggs at day 14. I think that was all...of course that was about a half-page...OK, for some reason I am falling asleep here! I think I better get up and do something! This is very weird...Terri O

Good morning! Looks like it might be a sunny one today...I hope so. Makes me feel better when the sun is shining for sure! Thanks for the kid words about the ewe guys. I have no idea what is going on. Maybe she was just caste in place and that is why she bloated...sheep are funny that way. I just wish I would have been home, then I might have had a chance to spot her and get her up. I hate having to go to work and then missing stuff like this!

I hope you arent too chilly DrH! Did you have to fire up the regular furnace during all this? Loose ends in winter are not fun for sure!

FT--did you name those piggies yet? What is so difficult about spaying the female? Wouldnt it be like a doing a dog? Maybe they have weird reactions to the anesthesia or something?

Well folks...this is VERY odd. I just went to read my email and when I closed out of it there was this message! Yes this is the one I "lost" earlier! Oh brother...maybe my computer knew I was cursing it? I think I will send this and go back to bed!
Have a great day! Terri O

I so hope you prayers are answered on the house,........ Paradise is always a well thought out dream just outa read.
We are in NE about 40 miles West of GB, near the little tiny town of Nichols, that probably isn't even on a map.....LOL
What eggs would you like? eating eggs or hatching eggs and what hens and roo's do you wish them from.....hehehe Let me know where you are we going sometime soon to H&R's place to get some baby chickies (Wellies) and maybe if your close enough we can stop by then. Otherwise Taxes should get back in a couple weeks and I will have to make the trip to Fondulac and pick up 2 bags will lasta year or more I hope...... Ty for offering... Kim

I know where Nichols is. lol not far from me. Fleet farm in appleton has food grade DE 40# $17.

I have a turner in my 'bator but it's not automatic. lol
later

good morning, Sandi, why neuter the female pig? It's not like every pig in the county is going to come calling, like dogs.. do the boys and let it go at that..

TerriO, thanks for the double post.. like regular and readers digest version. Your sheep might have bloated up after she died.. they do that.. maybe she just had a heart attack.. they do that also.

I have seen sheep just drop over dead by being startled while being unloaded off of a truck..
sort of like fainting goats, except they do not recover..

today is D-day for the goose eggs.. no wiggle in the water test and out they all will go.

My older peacocks tail is filling out nicely.. I will have to stalk him for a picture when he is showing off.. the young peacock has only about 5 straggly feathers to show off.. maybe later in the spring he will develop some more..

..........jiminwisc............

vermiculture .......... I don't know these big words.. but one times I did read about a guy who raised rabbits and worms.. he put his worm boxes underneath the rabbit hutches and let the worms compost the pellets.. something I have contiplated doing, but just never got a round tuit..

Thanks for the tip, Jim. I might try to incorporate this somehow when the weather is warmer. For now, my worm bin is in the dining room for easy access to kitchen scraps and to keep them from freezing to death. I usually move the worm bin out to the summer porch in the Spring....

TO are your hives active as in actively maintained/still in existence? Do you have them for honey production or pollination or ?? Looks like there's a lot of work/effort to keeping them alive during winter here in WI?
Elaine

Morning all!
Everyone her is good. I was going to be all blabby, but it took me longer to catch up then I though and I'll have to leave to walk that lab in a few minutes.

Raim-I don't think you got a reply about your bug question yet? Lice and mites are species specific. While they can crawl about on you for a few hours at most, they can't live on/off of you. The exception is are human lice and the Demadex (sp) mange mite found on dogs and cats. Those mites are communicable to humans. Hope that answered your question!

CC-Thanks for the worm info. I was going to ask you something about it but I have to go back to look at your post and I'm out of time!

Elaine-haven't forgot your rabbit meat breed question....get to it a little later today...

TO-sorry your lost your sheep..
hugs.gif

This more but I've gotta scoot...
Cheers!
