Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I think we all owe CN5 a huge thank you for getting us out of our shells and admitting to our plight. You said you moved to Junction? I know several people from there and I have to ask does your DH have a nickname yet? It's a running joke with me that all the males in Junction have a nickname. There's Skip, The pollack, Peanuts, Cuda, Big Johnny Haydock, Glenny, Jimmer, Moose, and oso many more. You'd have to stop in at the higherwater "Hiawatha" to meet most of them. Mostly good people! In 2 weeks if you need a hand with anything PM me and I'd more than likely show up. I like life and good people and can already tell you care. Goin away to the last resort in a week or two real soon. I'm soo excited! Today I felt like I should be getting my stuff together for work tomorrow. How will I ever cope? Guess I'll just have to tough it out. Hope I'm not hurtin nobody, ain't hurtin no one. Makes me wanna dance. I want to dance with you. Stop it just stop it. See what you did John! Made feel good! Thanks man!

I'm so pleased to see that I can help with everyone's recovery lol

Yes, we just moved last June to Junction from Milwaukee. Its been culture shock to say the least. I grew up in Antigo, even Antigo is a "big" city comparitively.

Now we are trying our hands at chickens. I've always wanted them for eggs and perhaps meat. My 3 year old and 8 year old just want them to have as pets lol

Got it Doc, we'll be sending John Prine in the mail directly.

I picked up five SLW and five EEs last week and almost everyone of them has bumblefoot. They are separated from the other birds and now if you will excuse me I've got to go read up on how the heck to deal with that. My coop will be finished Tuesday and they are all going out into it, ready or not. I've got two brooders in the sunroom and the whole house stinks, but the girls won't let me take the brooders down into the basement...it's too cold down there, they say. Well, the new coop room is nice but it's not the tropics either. I can't wait to have them out in the barn and get the menagerie out of the house.

My new coop is 25 X 36, to be exact, and Mom thinks 22 birds is too much.

CN5 You could be from Fubar Arkanasas and Junction would be a culture shock. It's like no other place. Looked at the pics can't see the cheese. Darn it! Gas tank on the tiller is clean so rebuild kit is next. Looked it up it's the cheapest one. BBCB Your the greatest!!!!! That is sooo nice of you! You've made a new friend for life. 25x36 man that's nice! 22 birds isn't bad at all. What is your goal? A balance of layers, meat, or show? Or just feathered friends? Gotta go on and get new fishin licenses and then head out to the garage.

Right now Doc it's just egg layers and all around feathered friends. We'll see how it goes, I've got the room to do some meat chickens and I'd really like to but there is a disagreement in the house as to the size and scope of the chicken experiment. Mom thinks it should be two or three chickens and I think I should corner the S.E. Wisconsin chicken market. I could go on and on about the injustice of it all but...nah.

That is plenty of room for them especially if they are out in a yard or free ranging too. My coop is pretty tiny--I need to make more roost space as I see now with the lights off at night there is barely enough room for all to sit. I guess it was fine for the origional 25 I had but after the raccoon attack I doubled the quantity; and after the babies are grown that adds another 25. Oh boy....I guess it is time for me to say: Hi--I am Terri and I have a chicken addiction....

Yesterday I got the garden tilled up a bit (enough to get the potatoes and onions in) and got that done. My asparagus is up a tiny bit and the Rhubarb is leafing out too. I also did a bit of work in the perennial gardens--cat wait for those tulips--that garden is gorgeous in spring! Then DH got the skid loader fixed by bypassing all the safety module stuff (the part was $650!!! to fix it properly) so he brought our a bunch of loads of black gold compost and dumped it in the appropriate areas. Guess I know what I will be doing in my spare time this week!
I had 2 men stop and buy some geese and ducks too--now I can get feed for the next week....

or maybe buy more chickens?

I guess I better go and get ready to head out to my brother's place...Have a fantastic Easter all! And dont have too much candy or ham (or whatever your weakness is) Terri O

Cool pic! That wind was something wasnt it? Glad your girls found the wind break! I am thinking a storm might be brewing because my group of three is not roosting in the open air in there cage tonight--they are IN the doghouse! Hmmm--maybe the wind freaked them out too?
OK--DH just looked for a town called Junction and it is ONE HOUSE! So what "junction" is it? This one in near Thorpe. He says you cant be from there. (of course he "knows" everything!) We are betting on Boulder Junction because that is close to DrH's cabin and Antigo. Too bad it's not Minnesota Junction because then you would be right down the road from me!
I hope everyone had a great Easter celebration today...we had a good time at my brother's place. THe food was plentiful and good and he insisted that everyone take some home with them. Somehow we ended up with 2 containers of meatballs and 3 of shrimp salad! I think the girls should have checked them out BEFORE putting them in the car! I sure hope they like it because we will be eating it all week! I really would have liked the ham bone to make some split pea or bean soup...(but my Aunt had dibs) Guess I will just have to bake my own ham to get the bone!
I helped a chick out of his membrane today. I was out in the coop and heard peeping and there was an egg that had all the shell nearly cracked off with the membrane still intact! I tore a hole in it so he had his foot and beak out and he is all fluffy and peeping tonight! Whew! Sometimes that doesnt work out so well! The litte one that was lame got caught up with his foot under the cage wire bottom today and I put him out of his misery when we got home. He was so cold and nearly dead...sad. THe rest look great and I am looking forward to a bunch more in the nest tomorrow...it will be day 22. My 4 week olds are moving out this week. You are right BBCB--they do make quite a stink as they get older! I have mine in the bathroom downstairs that we dont use and it is pretty powerful when I go in there! The only problem is that I need to make a new area for them in the coop because the kennel is too big to get out the door! I assembled it in there for a foster dog we had at one time. Hmmm--maybe I will deal with it for a while longer!
Work is early again tomorrow so I guess I had better get myself moving and feed my finches and get to bed! Goodnight! Terrio
