Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm back again. Surprise! I went out for the second time to gather the eggs around 8 and as soon as I got out the door I heard tires screaching and the bad noises of a car plowing through the woods busting trees. I sprinted down the driveway and saw a kid walking out of the woods. He only had a scratch above his eye from flying glass. Not a window left in the car. I asked him several times if he was alright. It was a good thing he was alone because if someone had been in the passenger seat they would have been in bad shape at the best. The right side was caved in and the roof was buckled down to the top of the seat. A couple that he had just passed stopped and called 911. He caught the shoulder getting back into his lane and lost it. I talked and watched him till the paramedics arrived, no signs of shock. It's a bad spot for a straight away last spring G'pa fell asleep coming back from turkey hunting with his 10 year old G'son and hit the end of my driveway. The ditch is around 4' deep. They were airborn for at least 30' and ended up in almost the same spot but thankfully they were both OK too. The G'son said he was asleep too. I said I don't think you'll be sleeping in a moving vehicle anytime soon. He said no I don't think so either. 10 beautiful golden globes of new-tri-sious and de-lish-ious goodness laid just for me. I feel special! The new nest box is 2/3 done. Had to come in and trade my sweats for longy's and pants. I hope we all have a better day than that kid just did. Shouldn't be hard to do.

Wow, Dr Ha Ha. Scary!

You also asked what I play. I play the piano and in grade school I played the oboe. I hated that, but piano has always been my thing. All my family members on my side can play. My Grandfather actually had some of his work published long ago in a Latvian hymnal. My Grandmother was my inspiration. She paid for my lessons. I have her piano now. It's a true antique. It's an upright that was built in 1880's and the wood it was built from came from France and the tree is actually extinct. I forget the name of the wood. It's in great condition, too. It's truely my pride and joy.

I would absolutely love to learn to play the violin. Stings are my favorite. But I don't play them. I also love the chello. They make me weak in the knees and go right to my soul.

That's funny that you said John Prine. I love John Prine. When I was a little girl, my cousin and I put on a skit for my Grandma and some other family members. I can't remember the name of the song, but it's something about the chicken and maybe a pig. My cousin wore bibs. And it was hilarious. Uhhh! It's going to bother me now. If you know the name, let me know. I could look it up online. And there was another song about chocolate. That was good too.

Bigzio- congrats on the deer. My DH would like to go hunting, but he never took the hunters safety course. And he's not grandfathered in. Missed it by like 2 years.

And there's never one available when he's available.

Happy Sunday All,

What a nice fall day, huh? The colors are just getting to peak, and against a blue sky it is a sight to savor.

Stopped by a local orchard today and came home with 40lbs of Macs, Wolfs, and Honeycrisps. Got the dehydrator fired up, and will be having apple crisp for breakfast, lunch, and dessert - Mmmm mmm! Does anyone know if a pressure canner is needed to make applesauce? I only have hot water bath abilities this season.

Once our home orchard gets going, I would love to get a cider press. Fresh hot cider, one of autumn's true delights.

Sounds like you've got quite an heirloom there. Hope the notes you play bring joy to your heart and if you can't sing, sing anyway! It's good for you. I have an heirloom too it's my kitchen table. Solid oak boughten by my great G'parents, 7 leaves, I'd have to knock out a wall to put them all in. Many memories for me sitting around that. And more to come. The only JP song that comes to mind is Space Monkey. But I just woke up from my nap and now I'll be running through the catalog in my addled brain to think of another. I've seen him 4 times live, twice in Wausau. The last time I bought an extra ticket for my youngest daughter she was about 18 at the time she and her friends were a couple of rows down from us, didn't want her to have to sit with the old folk. Before he started the lady sitting next to her turned around to me and said this is your daughter? I said yes why is she bothering you? She said no I just think it's great that you bought her a ticket. I said well she bothers me why do you think she's sitting there and laughed. Hardly a weekend goes by that one or more of his tapes or CD's doesn't get played. Good Stuff! Sometimes L and I will dance in the kitchen, usually to It's Big Old Goofy World. Or whatever happens to be on. Neither of us can dance, only the cats to tell anyone but everyone knows they're notorious liars. I got the new nest done and set up just in time for the Packer game. I went outside right after I woke up and Goldie was throwing a fit then B came and was doing the same. Hope it's just the new strange thing in the coop upsetting them, we'll see at bed time. Some were out near the road when that car crashed. My first thought was for the people in the car but while on the run I was hoping it wasn't because of a chicken. The ones that were near there came running back towards the house and I thought I heard one of them say Holy Crap!

Dr H sounds like you had quite an exciting moment there. Glad nobody was seriously hurt. One can always get a better ride.

Yep, the venison is our favorite red meat. We always keep the freezers stocked. We boned everything this morning and hurried it into the fridge to get good and cold. It cuts much better when cold.

Tomorrow we will take our time and trim to perfection. Fresh cheesburgers with toasted buns will be on the menu if we get it ground by supper.

That's got to be one of my favorite meals, right after venison loins, venison stew, venison sausage, roast - get the hint my family likes venison? Congrats on the fresh meat. we haven't got one yet this year. nothing seems to be working in our favor so far. but, we have until Jan. 2nd to get some in the freezer.

Good Evening.... Wow did we get attacked by the asian beetles yesterday...When you went outside, they were all over you. They are really a nusiance when they are out and about. I sprayed the whole outside border of the house with home defence, but I think the beetles still won the war.

fordmommy....the cheeseburgers were deeeelicious!

cristy17, good to hear someone else loves venision as much as me & suzie....
