welcome-byc.gif

been keeping up on the reading just not posting....

the last week has been rough here- we ended up having to put our Irish Setter- Cassie down, we thought we were making progress in the positive direction with her but not so much I guess
idunno.gif
so not only are we dealing with the loss we are trying to help Ellie-our Aussie pup deal with it too.

moved all the babies out to the big garage so no babies in the kitchen now. Looks like we have 2 Andalusian pullets that are about 8 weeks old, one is black and the other is splash that DD won't need if anyone is interested. We are hoping the next 2 groups will have a couple of blue pullets that DD can pick for her 4-H project- still have to wait and watch them for a couple more weeks.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Good chilly morning! I am finally getting on here....whoops AFTER I let the dog in....been "one of those mornings" Got a text at 6:30 from DD25s old BF! He told me there was an article in the paper about chickens in Lake Mills...yeah, that couldnt wait? Wouldnt be so bad if I could somehow turn off the repeated notification on my phone! Then the place where we had our 4H meeting called and said we left the place a mess! Now I need t go there to see where the vacuum is kept...sheesh---let me along for my morning already! There was lots of other stuff...wont bore you with the details!

Hey, that ad on CL about the dog...I think you guys are reading it wrong. THe person at the rescue is trying to find a place for the dog FOR the owner. From what I understood is that the present situation wont work and the OWNER will have the dog euthanized if she cant find a place for it. I think the rescue is trying to help but probably cant take the dog in because of the aggression issues (and liability once more!) What I dont understand is why cant the owner spend more time with the animal to make it more secure and either make a kennel or put up a fence to contain it? It makes me very sad for the dog...especially because he look like he could be related to my Elliott! (and NO I do not need another project...although I did rehab a dog that had a very similar personality. Took 2 1/2 years)

I also am of the view that once you get an animal is stays with you until it is old and dies...I do however make the exception for chickens!

I am wondering if this snow storm is really going to happen this time? Doesnt seem to have that look outside and the weather guy is really being wishy-washy about it! Maybe all the colds, body and headaches are predicting it? May we all feel fit soon! I am suppsed to travel to Milw tomorrow...we will see I guess!

Gonna go made some breakfast...have a fantastic day! Terri O

(PS) Bring the birds on Saturday Carol...that will be fine!

good morning, am coffee'd up and soon will venture out to feed the birds.

I am going to start replying to individual posts as I read them,, If I wait until I have read them all, I forget who said what and what I was going to say..

I did mention that I would like a blrwyandotte laying hen.. Robin wins that prize..

In all my years of egg collection, I have had a bloody egg only twice.. I wouldn't get too worried of it ever happeng , in at least not on an epidemic scale..

Apyl, keep us posted if your electrical problems don't go away.. The water pump may just have been under maximum load when you turned it back on.. prolly will be OK from here on out..

am thinking that I might sort out the Delaware hens and remove the lighter ones.. I have plenty of the heavies for hatching eggs.. so far, 5 of the 6 are heavies, and I still have 6 more to catch..
I catch them when they are eating,, once they get wise to me, then I quit and try again the next day.. I don't like to rile the birds.. there is one out there that I can't tell if it is a hen or roo.. prolly one of those large neither gender that never lays eggs or crows..

Have a hot prospect for one of Nora's pups already.. they came to me, found out somehow that I had such a breed.. IDK ???

I am getting the byc notification in my email.. If I click on the cheeseheads in the lead-in paragraph, it brings me right here to the last post I read.. very nice feature.. just thought I would mention that..

oh and someone (sorry I dont remeber who started the thought) asked about eggs... I sell to friends and neighbors and coworkers when I have extras and we charge $2 a dozen. I have a friend who does 100% organic and charges $4. Blows my mind!

Good Morning,

Still is for a while. Wow I slept a long time last night. Must have needed it.

Hens and Roos I am so sorry to hear about your Irish Setter.

I think my incubator is full of a lot of non-viable eggs. I need to get a good candling and figure it out before one blows. My cochins are so fluffy they need to be articially inseminated. The boys don't like that much.

I should sell some barnyard hatching eggs on CL. Hmm. Swap for Niellseville is the end of March on a Saturday. Should be plenty of byers wanting to pay premium prices.

Yeah it is funny about the roos. They did look a bit sheepish. Like "What Just Happened?" snicker

Howie is the worst kind of dog personality to modify, depending on how bad his aggressiveness is. He needs a psychologist and a psychiatrist. Hope they find him a good home.

Look at the goofy eye color on her. How did I just notice this today?

That doesnt look grey to me . It looks light bay. If she is under a year it could darken up. I wouldnt worry about breeding her though. I have a mottled cochin from a millie fleur project with light eyes and all her babies had bay eyes. I bet it has something to do with the lavender projectness of it.

Hey one of you Chicken Knowlege fairies... Question...

What is the water trick to check and see if these eggs from school are done for? Day 21 was Tuesday. I brought the incubator home and plugged it back in, but will need to test them somehow....

Oh, I am so never going to let him live that one down!

Jim is the Chicken Fairy and what was Bigz called? The Chicken God?

As for your eggs, patience grasshopper. They could just be delayed due to the fluctuations in the temperature. Give it a couple days yet.

You just can't resist poking a sleeping bear, can ya?

Apyl, the chickens will have those weeds gone down to bare dirt in nothing flat.

New Joe, I prefer pellets. They don't seem to waste nearly as much as when I fed them crumbles. But like Bigz said, everyone will have a different opinion. It isn't that anyone is wrong, you just have to experiment to find what works best for your unique situation.

H&R, so good to hear from you again. I am so very sorry to hear about Cassie. That is so hard to loose a beloved member of the family.

Whoo-hoo! Thanks Jim!

Well, right after I posted about whomever had the snow can keep it, it started snowing here last night.

This morning I woke up to the yard completely white, but by the time I was out of the shower, it all melted.

It can stay away too. Winter had it's chance to shine. C'mon Spring!

Ah, I'm still laughing my butt off about the Chicken Fairy!
