I agree with ya FT, there was an ad on the Madison one, a lady was selling an Appy for 500, that 2 weeks prior she got for FREE from a lady, that she promised to give it a good home to.
Then poof... selling it, nothing wrong with it, just a person wanting to make a buck.
The original owner saw the ad, and posted another asking for the horse back, willing to take it back, but unlikely to get him back due to the bad person.

Where as I am the opposite, I paid for a hen, that it turns out would go great with a young rooster that I had the parents of, I grew him up, and realized what a spectacular specimen he was, and there was an ad on the CL, that it turns out was from a lady I had sold to in the past...
She was looking for some specific types of chickens,.... and I had loads of those... LOL
I loaded her up with the polish I got for free from some one moving, the ameracauna and a cross bred hen I got for free from a fellow in the CL, the silkies I got from a lady nearby, KristiP has the others. I lent her the other 2 that KingDr gave me, and the welsummer that I got from HnR (she has a welsummer roo), a dominique/EE cross I got from a wonderful lady in Stoughton (KristiP and TO have 2 hens each I am QTing for them). I gave her the hen to go with the roo as they will make a great pair. I will get some hatching eggs, or chicks from the crossing in a few months.

But I gave her a lot of chickens I have cared for, and a few I paid some money for, she doesn't resell them, she sells the offspring.
knowing she will give them great homes, and that they will be appreciated and there will be lots more OF them in the future, makes it worth while to give them away.
Besides.. I am getting 2 more from the lady in Stoughton, either 2 delawares, or a delaware and another breed.
PLUS I am putting in my order to Chets feed and seed to get 15 Jaerhon chicks , (IF anyone is interested in another breed, PM/call/or email me and I can put in what you
want with my order) I can then go up and get them and house them till we meet or till the chickenstock. You can order just one, he will order you that 1 and simply sell the rest at
the store.

I am tempted to email that horse person and give her a piece of my mind and this person as well but my better judgement is telling me to leave it be. Good thing I don't get PMS anymore !!! I'd be all over them !!! LOL

TO... Yep, the headache was the kid that would not quite go away... then when I tried doing something it would hit hard...kinda had it today but not as bad.As for the coop... it's supposed to be deep but the girls keep moving it! LOL So it's deep on one side and thinner on the other.

Well, still no hot water. I changed the elements (talk about a PITA!) and still no hot water. ugh. Then on top of it our water pump wouldnt turn back on, it kept popping the breaker. I did make some lee way on the A frame coop. I've changed my mind though and now it will be for all the chickens instead of just the meat. But now I need to find a spot for it because it looks tacky sitting next to the small coop.

Ok question about coop location, I have a decent size area I could use but there is tall weeds there because its never been mowed. Do I need to mow that first before building the run or will the chickens just trample it down ? All the weeds are already laying down due to snow and such so its not all standing up tall. I also have a pile of old logs over there also but I'll be moving those.

Yes it was me looking for the BLRW, but I'm thinking about going a different route and will be placing an order with Chet for all my summer chickens along with a couple of my friends, and as long as the chickens I would like are available, then I will be done for the summer!

Feed question for layers...mash, crumbles, or pellets?

Got more done yesterday than I thought I would but todays list is easily double that. Think I'm going to raise the heat lamp on the youngins today and in about a week will take the cardboard off from around the appt. Need to sift some dirt out for them they absolutely loved dusting in real dirt! Have to skim the fat off the roast beef juice to save for soup, wrap Cind's stove and get that moved out of the shed, and couple of million other things. Looks like that snow is going miss us so will postpone putting the bucket back on as long as possible. Got 2 eggs day before yesterday and got 4 yesterday though think one was laid the day before. We'll see what happens today. Donny says his hens are laying again too.

Feb is almost over!

After reading I dont know how many websites lol I found one that suggesting checking the reset switch. Well.... like I knew there was a reset switch lol. I pressed it and the hot water is back lol. I really hope it wasnt the switch to begin with since I just dropped $40 on elements and the stupid tool I needed. lol.

Everyones talk about eggs and seeind the arodable chick and chickens is really make my wait take forever lol. I can't wait for the chicks to get here. I'm hoping both orders make it here at the same time. The one from Meyer says Feb 28 - March 1 and the order from Ideal says Feb 29th. So I have what 5 to 7 days left of waiting.

Good cold morning. Well looks like the snow might hold out but it is chilly. Funny that when you have a cold, you get cold quicker!

Carol- glad you got rid of some of your extras. When are you ordering your chicks? do you know where he orders from? I wanted to check with my neighbor if she was looking..I know she mentioned more Australorps....Wonder if we could coordinate with a hatch from the incubator?

Hoping to hit menards this weekend to buy some suppies with their 11% rebate... As soon as the ground is soft enough we are adding the new run on. DH is adamant where it is going and what it is going to be for most part, but I am getting more coop and run so wont compain one bit.

Gentle Morning Out There For All... Susie the eggs with the blood spots are safe to eat, just not very appetizing. I chose to cook them up and feed back to the flock. I've only had a few out of thousands of eggs. I've only experienced that with hens older than 5 years. However some of the hybrids might be different seeing they burn out sooner.

Welcome mazojoe....feed is by ones choice....I prefer the mash...others prefer crumbles and pellets.

I prefer to feed medicated chick starter for a full 8 weeks. Feeding it for a shorter period of time isn't long enough to for the medication to acomplish it's intention.

Hope your feeling better Doc...It's no fun being less than good to go.

Nice pics everyone...thanks for sharing. Been keeping up the reading...nothing new here...collected 11 eggs yesterday...the numbers are improving each week now.
