Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

AH--walk done--we took a few dogs along. Dh doesnt have a clue how to walk dogs! Now he is having a meatloaf sandwich and I am going t make some popcorn and have a glass of wine! See If I can find a movie to watch too...Nighties! Terri O
(PS) guess the roast will wait for tomorrow night!

My hen aprons arrived and I waited until today to put them on so I would be around....the poor girls!!! The boys chased them like they were invaders, the girls would catch it out of the corner of their eye....and take off running...kept trying to pull them off and they would get all crooked.....wind would blow them up almost over their heads etc.....not sure what I think about these right now.

Ang, it is usually best to put the aprons on at night.

Love the pup... so cute. We will be watching my in laws do again in a few weeks. Kids love it but being a 12 year old dog it certainly goes slower than a puppy. maybe another year or two we will look at a dog. Right now we are loving the chickens... .say Carol since you will be going near some of our good friends on here, maybe someone has some good hatching eggs for your incubator!!! hehe. I am so plotting on filling that thing up soon.

otherwise the household here was bummed about the race being rescheduled too. oh well, at least we didnt have too bad of weather today. They can keep it!

tiki, I'm from Eagle River,,,land of the expensive 1/2 chicken!

I betcha this is the first time that ER was mentioned 3 times in one day on the Cheesehead board.

FT,,,,this is a tourist town,,prices are higher than some areas,,,but the good thing is that usually (note usually) the service is great and for the most part (note most) the food is above average. If you come to eat next summer I'll warn you who is using my broilers I know they will be expensive,,,heh heh

OK,,I did get 100 more maters in flats on the matts,,need to pickup my pace a bit since grafts do take an extra 10 days or so. I grew 15 different heirloom tomatoes last summer and saved seed,,if anyone wants to try some or see the list, pm me and we can make it happen

Well I borrowed an incubator and bought another off CL last week,,,now I need to get my BCM roo and 6 of the best BSL's separated for some eggs. Yes doing mutts but 1st time hatching and I do think that this cross should produce pullets that lay darker brown eggs and still maintain the egg laying ability,,,,,,anyone ever try this?
The BSL's came from Sunnyside last year, the gal I got them from in Oct commented they had changed their breeding on these, they started laying under lights at what I figured was 19-20 weeks and do the anticipated egg a day,,,,nice large/xtra lg brown to dark brown eggs. A few of them are larger and have distinct markings on the neck area,,,these are the big dark egg layers and will be the ones selected to go with Joe the BCM rooster,,,,

Tomorrow I will build a raised pen/cage via Jim's pics to get them separated, easier to do this now and have it in the future than try to clean out the rest of the old coop here, that can wait for warmer weather.

Meatloaf, garlic mashed, mac and cheese with diced maters/habanero,,,,comfort food that will make a few meals this week,,dinner time

Nice Pics everyone, thanks for sharing them. Looks like we will have to watch the "come on boys let's go racing" tommorrow... hope it turns out to be a good one.

The link wouldn't work on my puter CC...prolly some block that's set. I would of gave them a heads up for sure.

Nothing else new here....my mom dialed the wrong number and left a message on someone's answer machine saying I should drop off a dozen eggs after church. I always stop to make sure things are fine. She said, did you forget my eggs? I said, i didn't know you were out. Well I left a message on your machine.Mom, I don't have a answer machine....OH I thought maybe you bought one!

I'll take her some tommorrow.

Hey Apyl, I have a 1997 plymouth voyager van that needs some parts!!
I would offer to sell you my old truck, but I LOVE it!!, its a 1991 ford F150 4x4, beat up, but works great!!
unless you want to trade a newer truck for it! LOL

Mine is a 1996 Plymouth grand voyager. I am hoping to find a car (mid size 4 door) or truck (with an ext cab with the bench in the back and hopefully under 180K) by next weekend or sooner so as soon as I do I'll let you know. I was originally going to take it to the junk yard but will sell the whole thing for $100, or if you need parts from it and it will still run afterwards so I can get it to the junk yard you can have the parts for free. Basically I just want it gone. It's got no exhaust, leaking gas tank, I think only 2 brakes, the rear hatch doesnt open. BUT a rebuilt engine thats only maybe 4 years old, great interior seats, and the body isnt bad.

I think your coop will work great Apyl...do you have a lot of preds. that you need to have a run? I guess maybe you do with all those woods! Looks like a great place!
Carol--I already told her that you might be interested in the van for parts...maybe it is even the right color? LOL! That would be a small miracle for sure...

Just posted eggs for sale on CL--we will see if the egg police are still there to flag my ad! I can never seem to keep an ad on there for long.
DH had decided that we are NOT having the roast on the grill tonight...he has waited too long to get it going...tomorrow is another night. I have no problem with popcorn for dinner! LOL!
Later--Terri O

Predators wise we have Coyotes, but they only come around at night, my dogs :/ we have hawks I see during the summer, not sure how bad they are though. We had that fisher come thru here but havn't seen sign of him in a while. The neighbor down the road is working on lowering the coyote population :). The neighbor at the begingin of the road said he has racoons but his wife feeds them so hopefully they'll stay near his house. Basically my main concern is our dogs. If at some point I can completely trust them then I am willing to do free range but until then I would rather pen the chickens. We have only been here 1 year come March and we are the first to ever live on this property, so hopefully the chickens won't bring out any other predators that normally wouldnt come by. We'll see I guess.
