tiki, I'm from Eagle River,,,land of the expensive 1/2 chicken!
I betcha this is the first time that ER was mentioned 3 times in one day on the Cheesehead board.
FT,,,,this is a tourist town,,prices are higher than some areas,,,but the good thing is that usually (note usually) the service is great and for the most part (note most) the food is above average. If you come to eat next summer I'll warn you who is using my broilers I know they will be expensive,,,heh heh
OK,,I did get 100 more maters in flats on the matts,,need to pickup my pace a bit since grafts do take an extra 10 days or so. I grew 15 different heirloom tomatoes last summer and saved seed,,if anyone wants to try some or see the list, pm me and we can make it happen
Well I borrowed an incubator and bought another off CL last week,,,now I need to get my BCM roo and 6 of the best BSL's separated for some eggs. Yes doing mutts but 1st time hatching and I do think that this cross should produce pullets that lay darker brown eggs and still maintain the egg laying ability,,,,,,anyone ever try this?
The BSL's came from Sunnyside last year, the gal I got them from in Oct commented they had changed their breeding on these, they started laying under lights at what I figured was 19-20 weeks and do the anticipated egg a day,,,,nice large/xtra lg brown to dark brown eggs. A few of them are larger and have distinct markings on the neck area,,,these are the big dark egg layers and will be the ones selected to go with Joe the BCM rooster,,,,
Tomorrow I will build a raised pen/cage via Jim's pics to get them separated, easier to do this now and have it in the future than try to clean out the rest of the old coop here, that can wait for warmer weather.
Meatloaf, garlic mashed, mac and cheese with diced maters/habanero,,,,comfort food that will make a few meals this week,,dinner time
