Tomorrow is another day !!! Right Bf4m !!!!!!!

Tiki, I don't think sister would have to go to court. She has medical power of attorney.

She just needs to convince her that going to rehab isn't the same as a nursing home. I can keep her Out of the nursing home, Maybe.

What she doesn't understand is if she goes home and falls again and gets hurt their won't be a choice.

Stayed tunned, tomorrow is another day.

Aunite is a character that is for sure. G@d I hope I don't end up like her some day. My poor nieces. I told my sister today when we get old we'll just have to say to each other "Remember Esther" !!! Not like it will make a difference. We'll probably be the same way.

Well, gotta go feed the piggys and give them their treats for bed time. Tomorrow is Klondike Days in Eagle River. I need to go see the sleigh Rally. I am bound and determined to be in it next year !!! Need to get motivated !!! Got my coyote hat out of the closet. For anybody that hasn't been to klondike Days, Everyone (ok well not everyone) but lots of people wear fur articles of clothing !!!
Be bought the coyote hats there a few years ago. I waned a fisher hat but they cost tons more. These were about $125 each as it was.
And no I don't have the one with the face on it !!! Gross. They sure are warm though.
DH has to shovel a path for me yet to get to the truck. We have huge drifts. We got 23" of snow. Funny how I didn't get withdrawals from not going to town for three days, cause I know I can't !!! LOL

Oh and bf4m, have patience !!! Over time 2 minutes becomes 4 then 4 becomes 8 well you get the picture !!!!

Sent to me from a friend...
My wife told me to go to the Doctor and get those pills that "help" men get an erection.
You should have seen her face when I came back and tossed her some diet pills.

I am still looking for a place to live......

OK, I was going to go through and post as I go.... but I'm fading! I did sleep pretty good for a change... Thanks All!
Jasmine is leaving her splint alone like a good girl... sure hope it helps.

OH,,, Burlington got 6.6" of snow.

OK, really must quit for the night... sorry If I missed anything... the pain tells me it's bed time... Night All!

Oh what a morning, I slept like crap, the youngest is all bright and chipper and I've got a nasty headache. We lost one more chick yestarday. So now we have 26 but they all look spunky and are eating a drinking. So now I have a 4 chic credit with Meyer, but now I am hesitant about re-ordering from them. I mean I loose 4 chicks out of 17 from them, the shipping costs more, and it took longer for them to get here. I deal on the other hand had cheapered shipping, got here faster, and not one chick looks like it is dying. Oh and the customer service lady sounded like she needs a new job lol, but oh well. It is what it is.

Ok so now I curious about guineas. I know my grandpa had them and swore they kept the ticks away. He lived in Arkansas so I don't remember how he housed them. Do they get housed? How big? Do they stay near the house since they are let to roam? Do they stink? How many would be needed to keep the ticks down (I have 2 acres but only maybe 1 is cleaned up to be cosidered yard). The ticks here were horrible last year and my 3 yo was their favorite meal. I would check here a few times a day and always find multiple.

Good Morning Everybody! MLH sounds like you've got one smart boy there! That had to be hilarious to watch!

Think it would make a good vid for funniest animals. The hook in the tackle box thing is an original from yours truly. I have others too some can't be posted.

Can't believe their going to be 2 months old soon. Going to raise the heat lamp again today and think I'll start shutting it off during the day on Monday. Supposed to be 50 on Tuesday.

Snowing a little this morning and blowing pretty good. Starting to get old. Percocet makes me sick ended up taking tramadol last script. Much better pain blocker. But if given a choice demerol really makes my day a happy one. About 45 minutes and it's nap time.

Gotta get my chicken chores done, get some b'fast then I swear I'm opening up that paint can!

Apyl, I know nothing of guineas other than people swear by them for tick control, and Raim has some that roost with her chickens. Jim & Cind have them also, so I'm sure once they see your post, they will answer you. I am curious about them also. We planted a ton of evergreens out back & they're starting to get big. I'm afraid they'll potentially become a huge tick magnet.

Good morning all! I am determined to tell DrH his paint can will never get opened. I have had a can of paint sitting in my kids room for like a year with different colored test stripes on the wall. Still . Hasn't. Happened. May be if Dr does it, I will...?

good morning,

guineas:
I could write a book about them.. well, maybe a page..
they can be the wildest things on your place, or mild as chickens.. It all depends on how well you are at training them..

they are useless as tick control if you keep them penned.. they like to roam, your one or two acres will not contain them..

you have to lock them in each night and not miss a night.. If they spend one night in a tree, that is where they will go until an owl gets them all, one by one.. they are owl magnets..

if you are going to free range them, start off with quite a few.. they WILL disappear during daylight hours also.. foxes, hawks, the usual predators.. they are magnets for them also..

their eggs are good to eat, smaller than chicken eggs, ratio 3 guinea eggs to 2 chicken eggs, and the shells are tougher.

guinea mothers are the worse, if you let a hen hatch her own chicks, be prepared to be there when they hatch or you will be lucky to end up with two out of a dozen..

It is best to collect the eggs and put them into your incubator.. they are very easy to hatch..

the keets have to be kept dry and warm, something the mothers seem to fail to do..

one way to tame a guinea is to let a chicken raise it.. not all hens have the ability to handle keets.. keets are very independent right from birth and strike out on their own.. they will stay sort of in their bunch, but not really follow their mother..

another way to tame a guinea is to raise it yourself, with a batch of chicken babies.. I prefer this method.. a guinea will bond to whatever it is raised with.. I have one out of my 30 who sticks right with the turkeys..

about once or twice a day, the flock will have a shouting match.. anything or nothing will trigger it..

I have a long driveway, if a car pulls off the blacktop onto my gravel, the guineas are the first to notice.. this is an occasion for a shouting match..

the guinea hen makes a two syllable call, the male makes only a one note.. however when excited, the hen makes the one note also.. so if you are sorting them out, do it slowly and calmly or forget it..

you can also tell a male from the females by the crown on their head, and the wattles on their cheeks.. the males are slightly larger.. However the birds have to be about the same age, because an older hen might have larger crowns and wattles than a young rooster..

since the guineas are free rangers, their meat will be tougher when cooked.. but it is delicious,,
I prefer their soup to chicken or turkey soup..

in some restaurants, guineas are substituted for pheasant.. I don't know how they pull that off..I just read it somewhere..

guineas will start laying eggs when it warms up in the spring, and the days are longer.. they will quit laying around September.

.............jiminwisc..........

ETA: IMHO
these are just my observations with my guineas.. I feel I wrote as accurately as I can..
as with anything, there are exceptions..
guineas kept in pens have a better chance of raising their offspring.. guineas who nest along the edge of the woods will loose most of their chicks and many times the hen will die on the nest from predators..

old chicks a new chicks all seem real happy this morning, but the Guineas are slobs! If the feeder is filled to the top they will just throw all of the feed out, and with them on 1/2" hardware cloth, it just wastes the food. Well it will long and they will be out in the bigger brooder and have a chance to run a little! I guess it is a trip for me and the DD to Menards after my Trapping meeting this morning, hope the coffee cake I made tastes better than it looks!

Joe
