Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

welcome-byc.gif
to everyone new, I'm knee deep in chicks, my broiler chicks came in on tue, a mama hen hatched 6, and a big group out of the incubator. A goose sitting on 9 eggs, a turkey sitting on 17, and as of yesterday a Muscovy sitting on a doz or so (haven't counted yet) and 2 other muscovy hen have disappeared

Good morning!

Well, the nice weather yesterday afternoon went sour pretty quickly. Just as I was getting the ducklings inside from their bath, the wind picked up, and we had a good little thunderstorm. And now it's cold.

But, I'm going to pick up some turkey eggs to incubate for one of my aunt's friends on either Sunday or Monday!

I'm so excited - I've never tried turkey eggs before - but, it sounds like they're pretty much the same as incubating my duck eggs. The only problem I'm going to have is learning to use the incubators that I'm borrowing for them - I'm spoiled with my Brinseas (but they're FULL for the next month), and it sounds like the ones I'm borrowing are LGs.

Buck Creek Chickens - Have fun with all those baby birds! It sounds like you have your hands full!

Sorry Dr. H, but put the gun away. I don't think you want the DNR or the US Fish and Wildlife Service showing up at your door.

Here is what you CAN legally remove from your property.

http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/damage/nuswlguide.pdf

We have protected species of raptors in this state that I am sure you do not want to be shooting at by mistake. Pen your birds in a safe enclosure or keep them inside until the hawk loses interest. They have a right to eat as much as anything else, and are a needed predator to take care of all those other irritations that like to eat chickens.

babylady4 Thank you for your post. You are correct. Folks please read babylady4's link. Remember the DNR in Wisconsin is very powerful and a warden can make your life miserable.

I am an avid birdwatcher and own a gun. I don't have an agenda however I do know you cannot shoot a hawk, or owl, or eagle.

Sorry about the technical matter of a .270. That was not my point.

A VERY great evening to all! What a day! Many things done. Had a ball with the pizza lunchen. A good friend of mine was still sitting at a table after the buzzer went off and I jumped up and screamed Did you hear that Buzzer that means go to work now get out there and make me proud! There were tons of laughs! At the end another life long friend walked out with me and asked if I had looked in the back of the Jeep. I looked, here was a bag of oyster shells with nose plugs, and kids water wings tied up purty with ribbons with a tag that says Teach your chicken to swim kit. And right next to it was a 12ver of Linies Red with a tag also tied with a purty ribbon that read. While your watching your chickens learn to swim. What a hoot! In the next couple of days I'll type out the note that I stapled to the bulletin board. Everyone loved it except management. There's a running bet as to how long it'll stay up. I was as nice as I could be. Ok now on to this. I applogize to anyone that I may have offended by my actions. I didn't bother going on the links provided I've been living real life for awhile. I too love and deeply appreciate all life and things. I free range my chillins and refuse to keep them penned like convicts. I protect them as best I can because they have a place in my heart that would can never be replaced. Lets say a Tasmainian Tiger [or large wooden badger]came into your yard and was stalking your children and just before it pounces you say to your DH oh honey don't shoot it, it's thought to be extinct. I'll get the camera. Sorry but it touches a nerve. Smart girl fm! Me not so much. Girl or smart. I have admired birds of prey since I can remember and have even entertained the idea of taking up falconry so PLEASE! I'm done. I want you to know that I appreciate, understand, and value your opinion like I said welcome to America! PS TO I had the fortune to see 4 bald eaglets up on the "Chip" in one nest years ago, don't know how many survived. Not much chance of ever seeing that again. Also got to see 5 great horned owlets behind my house here. Talk about big eyed fuzzy butts. BBCB Hope you had a great day at the ball game and got to have a Vienna hot dog or two. That just made me think of Will Farrell doing Harry Karri. Hey Norm did you ever wish you were a hotdog? fm and BCC see you in the morning!

Early Evening to All... Nice to meet your hubby today fordmommy. He is a nice likable guy. I wanted to offer a beer. Thought maybe i would be out of line?

lrgarden... welcome to the forum. Glad you're not against guns, most country folks consider them a useful tool, and I hope everything that was said are points well taken from everyone and water over the dam. We all learned something here I think.

Nothing like a bunch of cheeseheads to get er all figured out, eh!

Went to visit Bigzio with the whole family today. I knew my DH and you would get along great. I see you just posted too. My DH probably wouldn't have taken on the beer not to be unfriendly, but because he had to come home and work on those vehicals. But maybe next time. Actually he's been leaning towords the Southern Comfort and Coke lately.
