One of my new chicks has been crying a lot and hasn't grown much since hatch. I noticed this morning that it's blind! Great! I dont have the heart to cut its head off, but it's sad to think of it dying of dehydration or starvation.

You'd be surprised that the chick could very well survive. I hatched out a silkie chick that had such a huge vaulted skull that it's eyes were not developed. It lived quite a long time. It will learn to adjust. Give it a few days to see how it does. They will live on the yolk sack for 2-3 days.

I had a beautiful paint silkie hatch out the day before Easter and it had terrible spraddle legs. I had DH cull it. That is definately the saddest thing to do. Maybe can you have someone else do it if you can't?

I'm surprised I haven't gotten a knock on my car window yet. Been hanging out in McDonalds parking lot for the last three nights !!!!

I just realized that I have chicks that are due to hatch Friday. I phoned home and told ET

that he needs to turn my turner off. I'm not going to make him mess with taking the other eggs out ect. Hopefully I'll get home in time tomorrow to make things right. More Paint silkies and hopefully a paint or black showgirl !!!

TO do you have any muscovies you wanna rehome ?????

The chick is doing awful. Limp... Lethargic, if it stands it stumbles. When I hold it it let's it Head just fall wherever. I am trying to give it Sav a chick water. It's not wanting to swallow. It sucks more because I don't have pullets to spare, but I do Roo. Why couldnt it be a roo?

not a good day, sorry for all the heartache, wish I could say it gets better! I lost a meatie today, not near the chick that your marans are but still not ok with it.

As I read your post, it reminded me of a few chicks I knew in college though, awful, lethargic, stumbling, and im leaving one part out on purpose...

Is the chick nice and warm. Just let it rest now. You don't want to accidently drown it by forcing the water. Make sure it has plenty of heat. How old is it?
