Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BF4me, what you are describing is a typical non developed chick.. It will most likely die.. they do that.. this is just your first,, if you do any amount of hatching in the future, you will come across more like it.. sorry,it is what it is..

Hey all just checking in so no one thinks I died or something............ been busy while the weather is somewhat co-operative.....
been cleaning the garden, and compost piles out dragging the field, and cleaning the barn. Waiting on a bit of money to finish the tractor and then its time to separate chickens to collect some eggs to hatch for Jim and some exchange fluff butts my Dels for his Dels, new blood for our stock. I wanted to have them together already but these freaking mites will not die even with Seven dust, and I hate using the stuff.............
BTW how long is withdrawal time for eggs if I use it on my girls? I so far only did my roosters, gonna try another bath treatment, and more poultry dust b4 I resort to seven dust on them..........my neighbor is having the same trouble and her horses have lice as well, nasty year for bugs I guess...........gggggggrrrrrrrrrr I hate these little monsters.
So thats all thats new here.
SORRY FOR THE LOSSES OF CHICKIES SO VERY SAD...HUGS TO YOU GUYS..........Kim

Great Morning Everyone! Good job Bigzio! Congrats on the nice bird! Bf4me cull that chick Jim's right it is what it is. Things don't always go as you would like. So many other things but we're outta here shortly and things are on my tiny mind. Donny is bird/house sitting AGAIN! Nice to have a good neighbor. I'll beep and wave when I get to "K" Jim.

Jim and Doc... This chick is 3weeks old. I didn't hatch her. It's a Bev Davis bird. My husband had to do IT this morning.
I am kind hearted, but I can handle the bird death in hatching. I've already had to right out of the gate here. Just wanted to make sure you knew I was made of tougher stuff!

Just moved the 20 something 3 week chicks to the big coop. Man am I THRILLED. I am even considering opening the cellar doors to help air out the basement room. Guess I'll remove all the sh!t and see if that doesn't help first...;)

Gotta get kids to school!!!!

Bigzio Congrats on the turkey. We normally get alot of turkey around here but this year I havent seen one yet, kinda wierd not hearing them.

BF4M - sorry to hear your chick isnt doing well, good luck

FT - sorry to hear about your car I've been there and it sucks, I was in Alabama and living out of my car for a while when I was 19. Luckily I made some friends and stayed with them for a while. Luckily though I had a 1980 Crown Vic so it had lots of room inside lol.

BBP - Can you set up some food and water right next to it so it could find it. Do chickens smell very well? Maybe it can find the food and water by smell, or like Tiki said maybe one of the other will become the guide chicken. Good luck.

Mazojoe - Sorry for your loss as well.

TO - We had spaghetti last night also, it was DD 10th bday and she requested it :)

BL4 - awesome soap. Do you use lye? I would love to make bar soap but I just dont want to use lye. I do make my own laundry soap.

Well I think thats it. If I missed anything I'm sorry. I'm gonna try to be better at responding and not just lurking and reading.

Its a bit cold this morning, only 25 degrees. I am putting off going out the coop. I guess the birds dont mind the cold cause as soon as I open the door they all bolt out. I was very surpised at how easy it was to get everyone back into the coop last night after letting them run free yestarday. It's also great how much less food they ate . Well not much going on here, today is cleaning day. DD's sleepover birthday party is Saturday. I'll have an extra 6 girls in my house ranging from 9yo to 12 yo. This should be fun, and its suppose to rain so I cant send them outside to play.
I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning peeps! It looks like it's going to be a gorgeous day today! I went out and let the ladies (hens) out of their coop. Then I made them really mad and took their food away and made them go outside and forage. They were following me all over the place telling me they wanted their food back! :)

I uncovered both of my side gardens this morning so they could get some sun! Yay! I can't wait to get planting in the big garden!

Hope everyone has a great day! I'll check back a little later

Morning all!

Sorry to hear of all the sick chickies and the losses.....

BBP-I had an English Angora as my 4-H show rabbit. He was a great bunny. Angora's are easy to "collect" since they have awesome temperaments, but I don't have time to brush and pluck them like they need to be so, alas, I have no Angoras....

TO-I missed you too! Hoe are the Twins doing?

BL4-great looking soap....makes me wonder how hard it is to make soap!

Well, everyone here is great and I have a new Best Friend in the coop. One of the little Gold Stars follows me everywhere. I keep tripping over her so I just pick her up during chore time. She is very helpful...She also can't understand why she is not allowed to follow me out of the coop....

I also have found out that I am no longer the only Outlaw in town.....There are two more houses with chickens. I think they are in the same zoning area as me though. We stopped by to say "hi" to one of the neighbors and apparently I'm not as far on the "down low" side of things as I thought. Apparently, I'm "the house with all the chickens"....

So I'm very happy that my Outlawishness is catching....

Well, I best be off, I have some tomatoes that need to get into pots.....I've been watching the frost and freeze warnings, so I think I'll place them in the pots I can move around....then I can bring them onto the porch and cover them for the night....
Later taters....

Good cold morning from the north country,

The sun's out and eventually it will be a great weather day,,,need some rain. The only thing good about this constant freeze cycle is that I am working the edge of the gardens daily with the harrow hoping to elliminate the quack

I let the 6 week old Marans out for the first time yesterday afternoon,,,what a hoot that was,,,actually didn't have a hard time getting them back in either,,,I suppose today that will change,,,lol

Bf4 sorry for the losses, hope you catch the critter and your Wheatons are all survivors from here on out,,,,hurray for the move to the new coop!

Congrats on the hunt Bigz

Greetings All,

So the Crazy Teacher at work gave the chickens and the Quail away to her friend... I wonder if I will ever see my equipment? 2 brooding lamps and waterers... Who knows she is on spring break.

I have 9 peeps that are going to need a bigger space pretty quick at 3 weeks of age they are getting too big for their box. The plan for tonight is to clean up the inside pen and set it up for the peeps then borrow a tiller and roll through my garden. Hopefully it won't take too long and we can be in and out in a few hours.

I am excited to see what shades my blue Marans are going to be. They look to be all females so far but only time will tell.

Sorry for the losses, hope you can find some good replacements soon!

Morning

sunny and not so windy today! Found an egg in our aviary this am- thinking it is from the Red Golden Pheasant- small and a light tan. The peas aren't even a year yet. Of course the egg was smashed but I picked up the broken shell to show the kids and DH later.

DS(6) is all excited on Sat. he will turn 7 years old and has been telling me what he wants for his birthday party meal- of course we will have the family party on Sunday
