I'm putting the honey wheat bread in the oven in a minute. It's not rising like I think it should. We'll see what happens. Expected a full day of rain and T storms. Not happening. The wind really picked up and is supposed to be really windy tomorrow. Thought of postponing the schroom hunting till Sun. but with a little rain and the temps can't resist going. After the bread then out to add on another 10 feet to the other end of the garden for cuc's. That'll give us a 20 by 40 footer. I already know that next year there is going to be at least another 10 by 10 area for potatoes. Maybe 20x20. Hmmm

The bread is out of the oven now for it to cool enough to cut, about an hour. Smells most excellent! Come on COME ON! There's honey in the Norge just waiting to be slathered on the first heel. COME ON!!!!!

Their here, high winds, driving rain, tunder and lightnin! I should be home at any minute with a little laundry. Bread turned out excellent!

OK--here is the story: I got home from work with a bunch of scraps for the chickens and took them out to the coop. I gathered eggs in the bucket and decided to walk ofer to tortoise garden and make sure Manny (the new one) was fine. Put the eggs down and said hi to him and checked around for Stuart. Then I walked over to the clothes line and scanned the edge of the woods to see if I could see anything...had a very strong feeling to go over to the maple tree on the edge of the field. I looked in the edges of where the plow went and left ruts and good hiding places...I had looked there yesterday too. Then I walked about 10 steps toward the road to look at my cherry tree that I thought DH should cut down 'cause it looks like it is dead and crowding the new ones...something must have caught my attention (movement?) and I looked up near the road and there he was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was on the edge of the plowed field on top of a hunk of dirt. I ran to him and literally covered him with kisses! (yeah--I kiss my torts....

) So he is HOME AT LAST! I was crying with joy and called my daughter at work and she was crying too. I am so happy that his adventure is OVER! You guys probably are too...now I can stop telling you about it! AAHHH! I just cannot believe it! THANK YOU! wow!

On another note...I have a few chicks that hatched at school that are coming home next week. I am going to try and put them under the mama that only has 2. They should be about the same size...hope it works.
We just had a tiny bit of rain--I think the major part of the storm went around us. Maybe the next wave will come here. We had a little thunder and about 20 minutes of light rain. Glad I got the laundry down. Tornado watch for the rest of the evening.

Going to that family's house tomorrow morning to pick up the Phoenix. He says I can take whichever one I want. I was hoping to have a few more geese hatched. He wanted some; he thought he had Pilgrims but he has Toulouse too. 1 girl and 3 boys! Maybe I should just bring him adults?

DH got new batteries for the diesel! THe best part is that they were still under warranty; he thought he would have to pay half price or so because it was 4 years into the 7...he got them for FREE! What a deal! So now we have another running vehicle--life is good.

OK--I have a whole bunch more people to tell the good news to...talk to you guys later...find lots of mushies DrH (I will PM you my address and you can drop some off here

Still watching the bator TV all 4 chicks out are sleeping and can't tell if the 5th egg is doing anything

Can hear the thunder going on-we're trying a new medicine for our old dog who doesn't do well in storms-so far it seems to be working and he hasn't been barking. Our vet recommended we try melatonin to help him.

While off to take care of the animals-will have to run between the rain drops!

My older dog has meds he can take with storms too. He will try to hide ANYWHERE! Sometimes he goes under the computer desk, or in a closet or in the wood bin. He once ran away for a day because he was so scared.

Also bad with gun shots and fireworks.

Goodness gracious, this is my 1000th post! How fitting it be in the Cheesehead Thread

TerriO, horrrrrrraaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy for a found Stuart!!! It's such a huge relief when a pet comes home. One of our cats likes to sneak out once in a while for a 24-hr jaunt, and I'm always looking out windows until he gets back. I worry about cars, coyotes, hawks, folks who shoot cats...

DrH, congrats on a successful bread bake. There ain't nothin' like fresh bread and honey! We've given up store bread this year as I've make a commitment to make it all from scratch; have had many irritating flops, but am working out the art of bread. I use the GUMPS bread recipe on here, and tweak it. Trying to figure out how to get more wheat flour in while keeping a good rise.

Hope everyone is inside tonight, they're calling for possible tornados on top of thunderstorms. Raining here very gently right now, heard thunder earlier. Will keep an eye on the sky tonight.

Got a question for anyone who has ordered from Sandhill...do they only give a confirmation call the day they ship the chicks? I ordered 10 days ago, and they still haven't cashed the check. It's just an assortment, no specific breeds, but what if they have lots of assorted orders and run out of chicks?

Will they let me know if they are shipping on a later hatch? I guess that's 3 questions. Can anyone ease my troubled mind? Ooops, 4 questions!
